Which includes a set of ready-made slide layouts. Each layout includes image and text placeholders that are styled as headings and body content. To add your own content, replace these placeholders with your own content.

Creating a presentation

To open Keynote, click the Keynote icon in the Dock, Launchpad, or Applications folder.

In the theme selection window, find the type of presentation you want to create, and then double-click the theme to open it.

Some themes don't download to your computer until you select them or open a presentation with that theme. If your connection is slow or unavailable, image placeholders and slide backgrounds in your presentation may appear at low resolution until you are online again and the theme finishes loading.

To change the layout of the first slide, click the Change Master button in the sidebar on the right, then choose a different layout.

Each slide layout is a master slide, used as a basis for adding your own content.

To add your own content to your presentation, do one of the following:

If you have iCloud Drive set up on your computer, Keynote will save documents there by default. You can change the presentation name or storage location at any time.

To play the presentation, click in the toolbar, then press the arrow keys to move between slides.

To end the presentation, press the Esc (Escape) key. For other ways to show a presentation, see Play a presentation on Mac.

To close the presentation when you're done, click the red close button in the upper left corner of the window.

Keynote saves your changes automatically, so you won't lose your work.

Advice. In Keynote's preferences, you can set a theme to apply to all new presentations.

Create new presentations with a specific topic

You can set a setting in Keynote to always open new presentation in a specific theme, instead of displaying a theme selection window.

Choose Keynote > Preferences (the Keynote menu is located at the top of the screen).

Click General at the top of the Settings window, then select the Use Theme button.

The name of the currently selected theme is displayed after the words “Use Theme.”

Click the Change Theme button, select a theme, then click Select.

To close the settings window, click the red close button in the upper left corner of the window.

After you set this setting, you can still open a new presentation with a different theme. Hold down the Option key and choose File > New from Theme Picker (File menu is located at the top of the screen).

Keynote has everything you need to create memorable presentations. The user-friendly, concise interface puts the most necessary tools in a visible place. Therefore, any of the project participants can easily insert a visual diagram into the presentation, edit a photo, or add an expressive effect. And Try Out view on iPhone and iPad lets you display your current or next slide, speaker notes, and watch to practice your presentation.

Start with great design.

Just select a design theme, and your presentation will immediately become professional look. Available in 30 stunning designs. You can also create your own master slides, add background images, and change the design of any page to your taste.

Every slide is outstanding.

Turn your page into an impressive slide with photos, image galleries, math formulas, and diagrams. There are also over 700 customizable shapes available to you. Plus, you can take a photo or scan a document on your iPhone, and with Continuity Camera, that content will immediately appear in Keynote on your Mac.

Add spectacular transitions and animation.

Specify the path along which the animation of the object will follow. You can draw it on your iPhone or iPad using your Apple Pencil or your finger. You can also make your presentation incredibly expressive using stunning effects and transitions. There are more than 30 of them, including the impressive Magic Shift transition.

Record and edit audio.

You can record and edit audio right in your presentation. Add narration, individual lines or sound effects. And whoever opens your presentation will be able to hear all this.

Make it beautiful.

Give your text a stylish look by filling the letters with a color gradient or even a photo - with just one tap.

You learned how Keynote files open in Windows.

Let's finish!

Most Keynote presentation features are supported in PowerPoint, but be sure to preview everything after conversion. Make sure your animations, charts, and graphics look the way they should in PowerPoint on Windows.

Another option is to export the Keynote file as a PDF, but this loses the ability to edit the file.
