Open a golf club. Mini golf business plan: course dimensions, necessary equipment, cost calculations and methods of attracting customers

Despite the fact that golf as a sport in Russia is not as developed as in the USA, Japan and EU countries, opening your own golf club in the big cities of our country can be a success. Fortunately, it is not necessary to build expensive certified courses for classic golf - you can build a small mini-golf course for 400-500 thousand rubles and rent it out by the hour...

Mini golf and its characteristics

Don't think that mini golf is just a smaller version of the regular game. In fact, mini golf is a completely separate sport that appeals to many athletes and outdoor enthusiasts. In classic golf, people change clubs, and in mini golf, people change balls. The balls themselves are made from completely different materials and have a different weight and diameter from the classic ball. Their diameter ranges from 37 to 43 mm, their weight is about 22 - 80 grams, and their rebound does not exceed 85 cm.

Step-by-step plan for opening mini golf

If you decide to open your own mini-golf club, you must decide for what purpose it is being created: for competitions or simply for rental to individual companies. The first option will require much larger investments in the construction of the field in accordance with international standards. Plus, such a course requires a mandatory certification procedure, which is carried out by the mini-golf committee of the Russian Golf Association.

The second option is more accessible for beginning businessmen. The first thing a newly formed golf club needs is a playing field. The classic mini golf course is a 9-hole course. About 20 square meters are allocated for one hole. meters - for the construction of a full-fledged field, about 500 square meters are needed. meters. Mini golf can be located both outdoors and indoors. The second option is more convenient for Russia due to its temperate climate, although it requires high maintenance costs (renting premises). An open golf course usually rests on a pre-prepared concrete base and has a perfectly level surface. Can be covered with either carpet or artificial grass.

In addition to the classic version, there is also the so-called modular mini-golf. Modules are used in the absence of large areas. For example, when opening a site in a shopping center. The design of such a field consists of inexpensive modules. The average price of one module is about 25,000 rubles. A full-fledged turnkey modular field, if ordered from specialized organizations, will cost 400 - 600 thousand rubles.

You can build a golf course yourself - this will save up to 90% of the start-up costs. However, you will have to work hard and read the relevant literature. Otherwise, the client simply will not want to play on an unclear and unfinished field.

As the basis for a homemade platform, you can use ordinary chipboard sheets (350x175 cm) with mandatory impregnation with special moisture-repellent agents. The sheets are cut in half and joined with pins. The sheets are attached to the bar from below. A board is installed along the long sides of the sheet to prevent the ball from flying off the court. Next, the entire structure is sheathed with carpet to add ambiance to the site. To make 8 platforms, only 10 sheets of chipboard are needed. You can use plywood sheets to build a mini golf course as they are lighter in weight.

Golf Course Manufacturing Technology

An entertainment (amateur) golf club needs the construction of several small grounds of 5-6 holes. Basically, the more fields, the better. If you make only one platform, then if two companies play, they will interfere with each other, even if one company advances much further than the other.

In addition to the field itself, you will need to purchase instruments for the game. These are, first of all, putters (a type of game stick) - 15-20 pieces, balls - 50 pieces, cards for recording games and special clothes with shoes (~ 15 sets). About 50 - 100 thousand rubles will be spent on these purposes. If you are opening an entertaining mini-golf club in an open area, then you should take care of creating a special recreation area for guests. This is primarily a dressing room, tables and chairs on which guests can sit and have a snack. Near the field you can open a small bar with drinks and fast food - this will increase the club's turnover.

A serious step in the development of the club is the presence of experienced golf instructors. It’s one thing to explain the rules, another thing to teach how to play golf at a professional level. There are still very few athletes in our country who play golf at a high level, and each club has a chance to gather its own team of regular players. Regular customers are the bread and butter of any entertainment business. They need to be worked with, they need to be cherished and loved. Then they will bring 50 other players to you.

Mini golf advertisement

There are many ways you can use to promote your club. In the information age, this is especially easy to do. You should definitely create your own business card website on the Internet and register the group on social networks. Communication at specialized city forums dedicated to leisure and entertainment is also a prerequisite for promoting the club. It does not allow for all kinds of promotions, for example, you can give out free certificates to someone who brings five more players with them. Another good way to make yourself known throughout the city is by holding amateur mini-golf competitions. For example, competitions among large enterprises, competitions for Santa Claus prizes. Small modular fields can be taken to various promotional events and club business cards can be distributed there.

How much can you earn from mini golf?

The monthly income of a mini golf club, depending on the organization of the business, can range from 200 to 400 thousand rubles. To do this, it is necessary that about 25-50 people visit the club every day, with an average price for 2 hours of play equal to 300 rubles per person. Taking into account the costs of renting premises (or a plot of land), paying wages to employees, utility bills and taxes, the club’s net profit can be about 100 - 150 thousand rubles per month.

Video on the topic:

How much does it take to start a mini golf club?

To open a mini golf club you need about 700 thousand rubles. Investments will be required for:

  • Arrangement of the playing field;
  • Building renovation, toilet equipment;
  • Recreation area furnishings;
  • Purchase of inventory;
  • Registering a business with the tax service.

Additional costs include setting up a bar or cafe. Selling alcoholic beverages will require a license.

Which OKVED code should I indicate when registering?

  • 12 - holding sporting events in the open air;
  • 11 - activities of sites and stadiums for sports;
  • 51 - personal training with a trainer.

What documents are needed to open

To open an entertainment mini-golf club, it is enough to register an individual entrepreneur by providing the tax service with a photocopy of your passport, an application and a receipt for payment of the state duty. If you plan to hold professional-level tournaments and competitions, it is advisable to open an LLC. The procedure for registering a business is the same as when opening an individual entrepreneur.

Which tax system to choose

A simplified taxation system is suitable for organizing a mini golf club.

Do I need a business permit?

To open a mini golf club, you will need to obtain permits and licenses from local governments. It is also necessary to obtain the appropriate certificate from the Russian Golf Association. To obtain a permit, you will need to fill out a form and wait for the commission’s decision. As a result of such actions, the businessman will receive a certificate plate and will have the opportunity to conduct mini-tournaments at a professional level. If you are creating a mini golf club for entertainment purposes, obtaining a certificate is not necessary.

Business technology

The technology for creating a mini golf club depends on the goal being pursued:

  • For professional games. A special feature of the opening is the presence of a large field and strict compliance with international standards.
  • For active recreation. When creating such a business, it is necessary to make sure that everyone is interested: professionals, beginners, children and ordinary vacationers.

Making childhood dreams come true and making money doing what you're passionate about - what could be cooler? A student from Dzerzhinsk, Philip Mazurov, turned virtual games into a real business by opening the city's first mini-golf club.

I liked mini-golf since childhood, first we played it on consoles and mobile phones, then we tried it in real life. And when I thought about the fact that I wanted to have my own business, and began to look for an idea, I remembered mini-golf and realized “This is it!” says the 20-year-old businessman.

The idea was born in the summer of 2015, and already on November 15 in Dzerzhinsk at the Royal shopping center the opening of Mini-Golf took place. Philip was supported by his fiancee Ksenia Zhirkova, a student at the Faculty of Economics at UNN. Together we developed a business plan, arranged a lease in a popular shopping and entertainment complex in the city center, selected and ordered equipment online, and began an advertising campaign.

Previously, we tried our hand at entrepreneurship, we all started from scratch,” recalls Philip. - We carefully studied the rules of the game, equipment, and the experience of similar establishments in other cities in order to understand what premises need to be rented and what equipment to purchase. They invested 200 thousand rubles in the business.

By the third month, the business reached self-sufficiency. Now there is a period of payback for equipment and advertising costs. The main expenses are payment for rented premises, advertising and inventory renewal. “Mini golf in Dzerzhinsk” is advertised through local television, newspapers, and social networks. But the most effective were street banners. In the shopping center itself there are also sold-out signs for the new “section”.

Mini golf is open every afternoon and all day on weekends. Philip and Ksenia themselves work there; no other employees are hired yet. They teach beginners themselves and show master classes. Half-hour classes cost 150 rubles. 2-4 people can play at the same time. You can come as a family and have a mini-competition, or you can leave the children while the parents go shopping.

According to Philip, in six months regular customers have already appeared. In general, the contingent of players is quite different, from small children to adults. Mini-golf is popular in the city, and this is understandable: this is the only such entertainment in Dzerzhinsk, there are no competitors yet, and even in the regional center you can play mini-golf only in a closed club. This sport is not freely available to everyone.

Mini golf can be perceived both as a sport and as entertainment, relaxation, and an exciting pastime. This is an extremely useful activity that develops coordination of movements, concentration, eye control, body control, and accuracy. Our clients say that mini-golf is great for calming and relaxing at the end of a working day or work week,” says Ksenia.

Philip and Ksenia’s immediate plans are to organize city mini-golf competitions.

Mini golf clubs, which have been popular in Europe for many years, have been successfully operating in Russia for more than 15 years. In 1963, according to the laws of the International Minigolf Federation, standards for playing fields and special rules for the new game were introduced, and tournaments began to be held as official competitions.

Mini golf is a completely different sport compared to classic golf. The only thing they are similar in is the presence of a field, a ball and a special stick. And the main difference is the availability of mini golf for everyone in terms of price. Let's figure out how to start this business.

Design of a mini golf course

Mini golf does not need a large field - and this is its main trump card from a business point of view. The site can be of two types: open and closed. The player can be in any physical form; no special training or skills are required from him. Therefore, mini golf is a great activity for a group of friends or family.

The mini golf course is correctly called a track. There must be at least 18 paths throughout the entire territory, each with its own serial number. Moreover, all paths are constructed according to field class standards.

In total, there are 4 classes of playing fields certified for tournaments:

  1. Eternite (or golf miniatures). It is characterized by a range of area from 500 square meters to one square kilometer (more precisely, 1.2 sq. km). The width of the path is 90 centimeters, lengths are 6 and 25 meters. It consists of separate parts, each of which has different obstacles. You can play outdoors and indoors.
  2. Swedish (in other words, felt golf). It is covered with cloth, reminiscent of the surface of billiard tables. The width of the field is again 90 cm, and the length can be set in the range from 9 to 18 meters. The diameter of the site is 1.8 - 2.4 meters. Thus, the playing field area is at least 700 square meters. meters, maximum - 1,400. It, like the previous one, consists of different blocks with obstacles. Suitable for both outdoor and indoor play.
  3. Concrete. Suitable for outdoor play. The length of the field is 12 meters, width - 1.25. The circle is two and a half meters in diameter. There are 18 tracks in total, each perfectly flat. The total field area is a maximum of 1,400 square meters, a minimum of 700 square meters. m.
  4. Landscaping. More often it is called the free standard field. They play on it only on the street and the outside of the course is a miniature copy of a classic golf course. Its base is concrete, but covered on top with artificial planting. The sides are made of stone, wood and other materials. The number of holes is 18, spread over a minimum of 2,000 square meters.

That's all you need to know about field standards. Game spaces can be decorated in different ways, inviting players either into the jungle or into bunkers - it all depends on the designer’s imagination.

The club in mini golf is called a putter. During the game you need to use one club, but different balls are rolled into the holes. The latter differ in a number of characteristics:

  • size (diameter 37 - 43 mm);
  • weight (from 22 to 80 g);
  • rigidity;
  • type of surface;
  • rebound type. For example, if you throw a ball onto a concrete surface from a height of one meter at an air temperature of at least 25 degrees, then it will bounce by about 80-90 cm. And if, other things being equal, the height is 10 cm lower, the ball will fly off already by 60 cm. This affects the course of the game, naturally;
  • color.

How to play mini golf. How many holes in golf

According to the rules of mini golf, there is one hole on each track, and there are 18 in total. The goal of the game is to throw (roll) the ball into the hole with a club with a minimum number of hits. You can take another ball only when changing lanes, that is, one hole - one ball. You need to score strictly one by one, according to the lane numbering.

There are obstacles on the mini golf course. Players continue them on one track, and a maximum of 6 hits are allowed. Six hits - six points. If the ball does not reach the hole, the player is awarded another point.

You can play mini golf in a group, but only if there is one player on the field. The rest are waiting in line. The winner is the one who was able to complete all the holes and scored fewer points.

What can mini golf be like?

First of all, you should ask yourself a question: do you want to open a business in the format of professional or amateur sports?

A serious professional game requires a large field area, strict adherence to international standards and, accordingly, considerable investment. Thus, complete equipment of a field consisting of 18 tracks will cost at least 450 thousand rubles. The next step is its certification. To do this, you should contact the Mini Golf Committee of the Russian Golf Association.

Certification is a gradual process consisting of several stages:

  • provision by the club owner of a questionnaire confirming the compliance of the built field with international standards;
  • verification by committee staff of the accuracy of the information provided;
  • issuance of a certificate;
  • inclusion in the register of courses of the Russian Golf Association;
  • Registration of the playing field in the World Federation of Sports Mini Golf:
  • obtaining an international level certificate.

Now your golf course can host tournaments, including international ones with participation in international rankings. Based on the results of these tournaments, the athlete can receive an official rank.

Obviously, this activity will not be possible without professional trainers, and training athletes will become another source of income. Coaches develop from mini golf athletes with high ranks. Often they become the authors of interesting methods in teaching this sport. True, one cannot help but take into account the fact that mini golf is not yet very well developed in Russia, so any player has every chance to contribute to its popularization.

Entertaining mini golf

Even more often, people play mini golf not for sporting achievements, but for the sake of a pleasant pastime. This business is considered profitable because, in addition to golf itself, it involves good sales in the recreation area: food, drinks, visits to the children's playroom, etc.

Organizing a site for amateur mini golf requires a large hall. 3-5 fields with the same number of holes are built here. One game can be played on one such field. Two or more players involved at the same time will not be able to play comfortably, creating obstacles for each other.

It’s good if you have the opportunity to rent two territories at once - open and closed, so as not to interrupt the work of the club depending on the season.

Technological side of business

The scope of work on the selected mini golf courses is to provide it with a special coating,creating designer ponds on the territory, planting ornamental plants, arranging a recreation area, installing bathrooms (fixed or dry toilets).

There are many companies producing tracks. They are made from different materials, which differ in price, quality, and appearance. So, a path seven meters long can be made of wood and covered with carpet. Its price will stop at 15,000 rubles. If you use a special golf course surface made in Europe, the cost of the track will increase by about 10,000.

A good option is a collapsible laminate path. The average cost is 12-15 thousand rubles.

You can entrust the equipment of the field in the open area to a landscape designer. Or - trust your own imagination. Children can play mini golf on a playground decorated with favorite cartoon characters, castles, etc.

When purchasing equipment, be guided primarily by its quality. Need to purchase:

  • putters (sticks);
  • golf balls;
  • notepads (needed to record game results);
  • special shoes for golf;
  • checkboxes.

In the recreation area you can install upholstered furniture and tables. A good solution is to open a bar where you can buy soft drinks and, for example, beer. True, this will require additional costs and obtaining permits for inspections by the SES and other authorities.

Business registration

If you plan to hold competitions at a professional level, it is recommended to open a mini golf clubin the form of an LLC. You will need to obtain a license from local authorities and a certificate table from the Russian Golf Association. If you are opening a club for amateurs, it is enough to launch a golf course in the form of an individual entrepreneur.

The tax office will require the owner's passport data, photocopies of the OKVED code, a receipt for payment of the state duty (the duty for an LLC is 10 thousand rubles) and the original of an application certified by a notary to open your own business. OKVED code 93.11. If food and/or refreshments will be sold on site, the appropriate codes must be added.

As for taxation, the simplified system is considered the most profitable, according to which 6% of net income is allocated to the state budget.

How much does it cost to open a home golf club?

The amount of investment to start operating a mini golf course with a field containing three three-hole courses is about 800,000 rubles. Of these, field rent is 35 - 50 thousand.

In addition, the money will be spent on:

  • renovation of the selected premises;
  • purchase of equipment and inventory;
  • installation of toilets;
  • furnishing the space for relaxation.

The average cost of the necessary equipment is 150 thousand rubles. You can buy it on the Internet. A good stick costs about three thousand rubles. The cost of the ball depends on its size. You can buy a ball for 300 rubles, or you can buy it for 900 rubles. Read,where to find start-up capital.

How much can you earn from home golf?

During business, prices for games should not be inflated. Limit the cost of one hour of play to 500 rubles. Even at such prices, a working day of 12 hours and good attendance can provide a monthly profit of more than 300,000 rubles. If you offer players a certified course, an hour of play will cost more.

Subtracting the costs of rent, utilities, employee salaries, and tax payments, you will be left with a net profit of 150-170 thousand rubles.

Thus, it will be possible to recoup your own business in the first year of its operation.

Home golf advertising

Before starting an advertising campaign, you need to determine your target audience. You can search for potential clients on city forums or through contextual/targeted advertising. Create your own account on social networks and attract clients through it.

You will need to hire a professional photographer and take good photos and come up with advertising text for them. First, send invitations to your friends, then you need to look for and attract clients from social networks. Make outdoor advertising for your club - signs and banners around the city will attract attention to the club.

Customer reviews tell the best story about your establishment. Therefore, take care to properly organize the cleaning of the area and treat visitors politely.

Conclusion

Mini golf is a relatively new sport and entertainment for our country, but it is actively developing and has good prospects. People, especially in large cities, are looking for new opportunities to spend their free time interestingly and usefully. A mini golf club is an interesting project that has a chance of being successful. Competent work with the target audience, high-quality field development, consultations with competent trainers will provide your project with a flow of clients. Determine in advance the portrait of the target audience and its needs, calculate the possible risks.

2. DESCRIPTION OF THE INDUSTRY AND COMPANY

Mini-golf is a sports game in which participants compete with each other, driving a small ball into special holes by hitting clubs and trying to cover a designated distance of several paths in the minimum number of strokes. Minigolf officially appeared in 1953, after Swiss architect Paul Bonguigi created a minigolf course and patented the name minigolf. After the creation of the first artificial turf courses, mini golf quickly spread throughout the world, and rules and courses were standardized. Already in 1963, the International Minigolf Federation was established, which in 1993 was reorganized into the World Minigolf Sports Federation (WMF). Since 2003, Russia has become a member of this association, which today includes 63 countries. Despite the fact that mini-golf is most popular in European countries, in our country it is also gradually gaining its fans, attracting them to this sport as amateurs and athletes.

Since the potential of sports mini-golf has not yet been fully developed and the demand for it is small, this project plans to open an amateur mini-golf court, i.e., one that does not require certification procedures from the Russian Golf Association. For the opening of the court, an entertainment format will be chosen, suitable for family leisure and leisurely fun in the company. It is this format that is most promising today from a business point of view and, in combination with additional sources of income, for example, the sale of drinks and snacks, can bring stable profits. Mini-golf services are increasingly being offered by sanatoriums, country hotels and recreation centers.

The target audience is divided into four main segments: the majority are families with children - 35% and young people aged 18 to 35 years - 30%. Another 20% of clients are schoolchildren and 15% are clients over 35 years old.

Figure 1. Target audience of mini golf clubs.

According to survey results, 50% of clients cite interest in it as a new type of recreation as the main reason for choosing mini-golf; 25% of respondents cite the opportunity for adults and children to play together as an advantage.

Figure 2. The main reason for playing mini golf

The project plans to organize the work of the club in two formats: summer and winter. In the summer, the club’s work will be organized on a rented open-air site; in the cold season, the site will move to a covered area nearby. This format of work involves the purchase of a modular platform (for more details, see point 5).

To summarize the above, we note several advantages of this direction:

    public availability. Playing mini golf does not require any special skills or abilities, nor does it require good physical shape. The player just needs to stand on his feet and hold the stick.

    possibility of collective play. Mini golf is valued as entertainment for families and companies, and can be used as a component of corporate events.

    no large area required. Unlike regular golf, the space requirements are much smaller, and the playing area itself can be located both outdoors and indoors.

    lack of need for qualified personnel. The entertainment format does not require hiring instructors and coaches.

    novelty. Despite its decent history, in our country mini-golf is considered a new form of entertainment, replacing bowling and billiards.

    lack of competitors. This type of entertainment is poorly represented on the market and is characterized by a low level of competition.

3. DESCRIPTION OF GOODS AND SERVICES

The main service of the court will be the organization of mini-golf games. The court will be open daily from 10:00 to 22:00. There will be a summer bar next to the court, selling fast food and drinks, and a relaxation area with hammocks. The establishment will be aimed at visitors with an average income level, offering services at affordable prices and positioning mini-golf as mass entertainment. The site can also be used for weddings, corporate events and birthdays. More details about the services are in the table. 2.

4.SALES AND MARKETING

The key factors for the success of a mini golf course will be: a convenient location, a competent and visually attractive layout of the site, and affordable prices. As a competitive advantage, at the initial stage it is recommended to set lower prices for subscriptions compared to competitors in order to form a base of regular customers. Also a necessary addition would be the presence of a cafe, bar or restaurant at the court, since most clients visit the courts in the evening after work and would not mind having a snack or drink. This project involves the creation of a mini-bar for the sale of fast food and drinks.

At the opening stage of the court there will be a small show with a drawing of several passes for free/discounted visits to the club and other prizes. Similar events are planned to be carried out to stimulate demand during the main period of activity. Other ways to promote services will be:

    distributing flyers and discount coupons to passersby;

    posting information about the club on specialized catalog sites and advertisement sites;

The project also involves creating your own one-page page with basic information about the club and communities on social networks that will illustrate the life of the club and advertise its services.

5. PRODUCTION PLAN

Location. The most suitable options for placing a mini-golf court are considered to be parks and forested areas, public gardens, college campuses, premises of shopping centers, sports clubs (for indoor golf clubs). In our case, we plan to rent a plot of land from one of the city parks. To organize an entertainment mini-golf center, you will need an area of 700 square meters. meters, where a playground, a hammock area, and a mini-bar will be located. The project involves renting a site in the summer and moving the paths to the territory of the sports complex, located in close proximity to the open site in the cold season. Parking is available near the court.

Layout and design. The selected space requires proper planning. The site should be designed so that customers move quickly from lane to lane, but at the same time do not create a crowd. It is also necessary to ensure that the selected site is visually attractive to clients, so that it is comfortable and pleasant to stay in. Since golf is associated with calm, unhurriedness and tranquility, a good option would be to plant green spaces on the territory, create artificial ponds and alpine slides. To create such an environment, it is recommended to involve landscape design specialists. The cost of design work, taking into account the development of a design project (2.5 thousand rubles/area), design services (1.5 thousand rubles/area) and the purchase of materials will be 490 thousand rubles.

Equipment. The court will be equipped with a modular miniature golf course with 18 lanes of varying lengths. The advantage of modular tracks is ease of assembly/disassembly, safety of transportation and storage, which allows you to extend the service life of the product. The playground is made of high-quality materials: impregnated dried boards and waterproof plywood, PVC artificial grass and aluminum profiles. The tracks will be purchased from a specialized organization. The cost of installation of the site is included in the cost of the tracks.

Production plan. On average, one set of mini golf takes about 2-2.5 hours, so the full court capacity will be more than 320 people with a 12-hour working day. However, such indicators are only theoretically possible - in this business plan, the calculations are based on an attendance of 40 people. on weekdays, 100 people. - on weekends, total per month. about 1680 people per month or 500 thousand rubles (with a game cost of 300 rubles). Taking into account another key point of income - income from the sale of fast food and drinks, with such attendance, the club’s revenue per season will reach about 600-700 thousand rubles, with a net profit of 230-290 thousand rubles, which will fully cover possible losses during the off-season. Reaching the planned sales volume is planned for the 4th month of operation.

6. ORGANIZATIONAL PLAN

The business will be registered as an individual entrepreneur, the taxation system will be simplified (USN 6%). Since the entertainment format of mini-golf has been chosen in this project, the involvement of experienced sports trainers will not be required. It is enough to hire several administrators working in shifts, bartenders and security guards. The responsibilities of administrators will include accepting payments, issuing sports equipment to clients, and providing all conditions for playing. The bartender will be responsible for fulfilling customer orders (selling food and drinks, preparing snacks and fast food). The role of the club manager will be taken on by an individual entrepreneur, who will also be involved in promoting the club. Accounting and security services are expected to be outsourced.
