This unique "Golden Turtle Wildlife Festival" has been held since 2006. The most notable part of its content is a large-scale wildlife-themed photography competition. It so happened that I was not at the last couple of festivals, that’s how the circumstances developed. And by the end of March 2015, I suddenly realized that I could miss it again, and on April 1st I was nevertheless “carried” to this event. This year the festival is taking place at the Museum of Moscow on Zubovsky 2, in the building of the former Provision Warehouses, right on Sadovoy. This delightful, simple and, at the same time, perfect architectural monument of the 1st half of the 19th century in the Empire style is perfectly suited, at least externally and situationally, for holding significant exhibition events. I have never been to the first building of the Provision Warehouses, where the Golden Turtle takes place, and it will be extremely interesting for me, together with you, to explore this new exhibition space in Moscow at the same time.

In 2010, the Golden Turtle Wildlife Festival became officially international. There is a film competition here (since 2011), and since 2013 art design and fine arts competitions have been held. The main objects at the festival are Nature, Art, People. I was most interested in the photo competition and this is what my story (report) will be about. If possible, I will present you with most of the competition photographs, and will focus on those works that I liked the most. Since many names of photographic works, especially by foreign authors, are quite laconic, I will give them my own alternative names at will, leaving, of course, the original ones and will try to unobtrusively express my feelings in order to reflect exactly my vision of the content of the photographic works of this festival. Thus, this will not be an analytical report from the event, but a personal impression of the festival in all its colors, shades, feelings that it evoked. By the way, the festival has been extended until April 12, 2015 and you still have a unique chance to get to this interesting event.

02.

I will stop a little at the end of my story about the festival and the history of this building, what is connected with it and my impressions of the Provision Warehouses as a new exhibition space, but not at the moment. Now, we will plunge into the world of wild nature, into what surrounds us as city dwellers. We are deprived of a natural connection with living nature and these unique photographs will help us make up for the lack of complete impressions of this World, which still exists, in its indescribable natural beauty.

The exhibition space of the Golden Turtle festival consists of three long elongated sectors-halls, separated by arched brick support structures. Looking from left to right, the first and second sectors are dedicated to the photo competition, and the third is reserved for fine arts and art design. We will begin our inspection by moving to the first sector on the left. This is the kingdom of birds...

Portrait. Giovanni Prescura. Italy.
04.

Rivalry. Bence Mate. Hungary.
I would probably call the work “Grace”...)
05.

06.

Takeoff. Severin Peillet. Switzerland. This is the first winner of the category: Birds. I must say that the information for photographers is concise, but very complete. You can easily find out what camera and lens the photographer used, what the camera settings were, and under what circumstances the story was shot. Under each nomination winner's work there is a sign on the floor with the opinion of a number of festival jury participants about it. Everything is correct, competent and understandable.
07.

Courtship. Peter Bediarek. Poland.
"Call of nature"...
08.

Miracle. Le Ngoc Minh. Vietnam. These are hoopoes. Amazing shot!
09.

Mouth full. Giedrius Stakauskas. Great Britain. This is an Atlantic dead end. Their body length is 30-35 cm, weight 450-500 g. The high, brightly colored beak is strongly compressed from the sides. The back is black, the underparts are white. Paws are orange-red. Puffins walk, fly, swim and dive well using their wings and paws. They feed on small fish and marine invertebrates..., like now...)

12.

Fight of toadstools. Pier Luigi Rizzato. Italy. The Great Grebe, or Great Grebe (lat. Podiceps cristatus) is a species of aquatic bird from the Grebe family.

15.

Flamingo Squadron. Pere Sole Isern. Portugal. Winner of the nomination: Harmony of life. This is an aerial photograph. The author does not reveal his equipment or how this amazing shot was captured. One thing is for sure - this is Spain, the swamps of Southern Andalusia.

33.

Together. Daniel Shelmetsi. Hungary. - Caught. Mark Casanovas Felix. Spain.
Here, at least about the top photo, it should be said that it shows fishermen catching whale sharks, the largest sharks in the world...
34.

Now we have already reached the end of the first hall of the festival and examined the photographic works on only one of its walls. I must say that I deliberately chose a time around 16:00 so that there would be few visitors and there would be an opportunity to take informative shots of general plans of the exhibition space without many visitors.
35.

Friends. Daniil Lugovoi. Moscow. Symbolic...
36.

Here, on the column, at the beginning of the first hall, I especially liked the photo work of Cutie-Face by Vladislav Kostylev, I made the title in this material about the Golden Turtle 2015 festival.

59.

We move to the central hall. There is a green aquarium with the offer “Feed the fish and make your wish come true...”. The fish, as usual, feeds for money)

The XII International Wildlife Festival GOLDEN TURTLE was held on November 4-18, 2018 in Moscow at the Central House of Artists and will be held from November 30 to January 13, 2019 in St. Petersburg in the “Floors” space.

The festival is an official event of the United Nations Decade for Biodiversity.

This year's motto: “Freedom. Creation. Scale". The key event of the festival will be a large interactive exhibition of the works of finalists and laureates of the international photo competition The Golden Turtle 2018. This year the competition attracted a record number of participants: more than 2,300 authors from 110 countries sent their works. Authors compete in several categories: photography, painting and eco-posters.

“The Golden Turtle 2018 is one of the TOP 3 most prestigious international creative competitions for wildlife photographers. Therefore, the requirements for the level of work are the highest,” says festival president Andrei Sukhinin. - The jury, which includes the highest world-famous photography professionals, evaluated the works according to several criteria at once. This is the level of artistic and technical performance, the biological value of the frame, the creative novelty of the author’s approach to shooting and much more. In addition, all photographs undergo additional examination regarding the ethical treatment of animals during filming, as well as technical examination to assess the level of use of graphic editors when processing images. I especially want to note that it is very important for us that the works are not just beautiful, but carry a certain meaning inherent in the idea of our festival - “Freedom. Creation. Scale".

The GOLDEN TURTLE Wildlife Festival is not a traditional photo exhibition format. The festival area is a place for leisure for the whole family. Guests will find a lot of unforgettable events: interactive trips using augmented reality technologies, master classes for both professional photographers and training programs for beginners, screenings of unique documentaries, creative meetings with famous people-ambassadors of the festival. For the first time this year, visitors will be able to become participants in the Eco-Lecture Hall.

“This year, the special guest of our program” was the famous photographer from the Netherlands, a member of the competition jury, Jan Vermeer. At the festival he will present an exhibition of his works,” says Andrei Sukhinin. “The festival team is trying to make sure that our events are interesting to the widest range of visitors - from professional photographers, people interested in culture and art, to ordinary families who like to spend time interestingly and at the same time usefully"

About the festival:

GOLDEN TURTLE is an international interactive wildlife festival that brings together the best creative works of world-class photographers, artists and designers about the beauty and harmony of the surrounding world. GOLDEN TURTLE is a project whose spirit and philosophy are aimed at preserving nature through art. The key event of the festival will be a large interactive exhibition of works by finalists and laureates of the international competition The Golden Turtle 2018.
