Remedy for gray crows. 5 best ways to scare away birds

Any ornithologist in defense of crows can say that these birds are smart birds and good parents. They take care of their chicks in early spring from aggressive people who they feel intuitively. However, when a dull croak is heard around the dwelling from morning to evening, the question invariably arises: how to get rid of crows. After all, these birds not only interfere with sleep, they can destroy the chicks of their smaller counterparts.

Knowing how to get rid of crows can keep your yard calm and your garden safe.

How to get rid of crows in the yard

Shooting these annoying representatives of the bird world is a bad option. First, it is prohibited by law in many regions. Secondly, it is unlikely that such a method will be effective. Some advise breeding more large birds(eagles, golden eagles), which will destroy the crows in a natural way. However, this option also cannot be called ideal, since these birds are considered freedom-loving and it is quite difficult to tame them.

Let's hope for other means. For example,

  • keep the yard clean. Crows do not live where there is no food for them. Therefore, garbage containers must be emptied in a timely manner. It is desirable that they be closed with lids that will close access to their contents;
  • eliminate potential nesting sites. It is necessary to monitor the trees growing nearby - to file dried branches. This usually helps, as crows make their nests in open places, and not on branches covered with greenery.
  • set spikes against birds. These devices can be purchased at hardware stores. They are mounted on fences and roofs. Crows will not be able to settle on such spikes.

To deal with these annoying neighbors, one method will not help, they must be used all together.

How to get rid of crows on the site?

Even worse, if the crows have chosen your garden plot and prevent crops from ripening. In this case, the following may help:

  • frightened, especially in the form of animals. These birds are deterred by the sight of their dead relatives;
  • reflective tapes. You can put poles and hang shiny stripes on them. Another option is to stretch reflective tape around the perimeter;
  • bioacoustic agents. Pretty effective tool. The operation of such a system is based on the reproduction of the disturbing cries of birds.

Crows are afraid of noise, but fireworks, sirens are unlikely to please the neighbors.

Crows are extremely intelligent and resourceful birds, although some people consider them annoying neighbors. These birds easily adapt to new environments and learn new skills, such as opening a trash bag or using branches and leaves as handy tools. Crows are social birds, they roam and feed in flocks, so if one crow appears, be prepared for the fact that soon there will be more of them. Because crows are so smart, getting rid of them is quite difficult, so you may have to alternate between different methods, making your site unattractive to these birds.

Steps

Part 1

Creating an unfavorable environment

Store trash so crows can't get to it. Ravens can easily open a plastic bag of trash to dig through your garbage. Make sure that the trash can is not overfilled, because crows can enter through the smallest gap under the lid. Install a container with a closing lid. As soon as the crows find a food source, they will visit it daily, so it is necessary to deprive them of this opportunity.

    • Make sure that all trash cans are tightly closed, and hang latches on them.
    • To prevent trash cans from tipping over, tie them to pegs stuck in the ground.
  1. Cover all compost or place it in containers. Ravens are omnivores and eat any food waste, so they need to be securely hidden. Composting food waste is very convenient, but the compost attracts crows. To avoid crow infestation, cover the compost or store it in a container. Compost from fallen branches and leaves does not attract crows.

Protect your garden. Although crows are useful in destroying insects and other pests, they often peck at ripe fruits. Cover the plants with flexible bird netting, available from a hardware store. For protection against crows, a mesh with a mesh size of 10 centimeters is suitable - such a large mesh will allow smaller birds to still hunt insects. Throw the net over the plants or hang it above them using suitable frames. Make sure the mesh is securely fastened. The net can cover not only small plants, but also bushes with trees.

Use bird feeders that are inaccessible to large birds. Purchase feeders that automatically close when the weight of the bird exceeds a certain value. Clean the ground under the feeder daily to prevent spilled food from attracting crows.

Set up birdhouses out of the reach of crows. Ravens sometimes eat broods of smaller birds. If a crow finds a nest in which to profit, then it will return to it every year.

    • Make sure that in all the birdhouses you install, the distance from the inlet to the bottom exceeds 15 centimeters.
    • Remove the perch from the birdhouses in front of the inlet so that the crow cannot sit on it, waiting for the chicks to look out of the birdhouse.
  2. Apply clear bird repellent gel to tree branches and other nesting areas. This gel can be purchased at a hardware store or online. Bird protection gel is a sticky, non-toxic substance that, unlike bird spikes, does not damage appearance buildings and trees. The sticky gel will scare away crows and prevent them from nesting in your garden.

Reduce lighting in the yard. At night, crows like to congregate in well-lit areas. By dimming the lights around your home, you will make your yard less attractive to crows.

Pay special attention to crows in early spring. Generally, crows are migratory (or migratory) birds and they nest in early spring. Try to prevent crows from nesting in your area as soon as they appear.

Chase away the crows before dusk. By scaring away the crows in the evening, you will prevent them from spending the night on your site. AT evening time birds are looking for a quiet place to sleep, so frightened crows will leave your territory and go to another place.

Part 3

scaring away crows

To scare away crows, use scarecrows resembling animals. You can buy fake crow figurines and hang them upside down. Birds will be put off by the sight of their dead brethren. You can also use owl or snake figurines, but they will only scare away the crows for a short time. Ravens are able to memorize individual figures and recognize that they are inanimate.

Shine a light on the crows with the laser pointer. The laser beam is able to briefly frighten the crows from their homes, but soon they will return again. However, with constant disturbance, crows may eventually move to a more peaceful place.

  1. Install garden scarecrows hung with reflective objects on your site. Moving shiny objects scare away crows. You can purchase bird-repellent reflective tape. Set up poles in your yard and hang strips of shiny ribbon on them, or fasten the ribbon to the fence around the perimeter of the territory. Change the position of the poles and tape periodically so that the crows do not get used to it. In addition to bird tape, you can use the following materials:

    • Any reflective tape
    • Old CDs hanging on ropes.
    • Aluminum molds for baking. Any shiny objects will help scare away the crows.
  2. Scare away crows with loud noises. Crows do not like loud noises, such as explosions, loud banging, sirens; however, be aware that these methods, which are effective in scaring away birds, may disturb your neighbors. Every time you see crows, make a noise that scares them away. Playing sounds made by predators hunting crows or frightened crows will also help to scare away birds. Similar records can be found on the Internet. Try to scare away the crows with the following sounds:

    • Fireworks
    • Recordings of frightened crows
    • Recordings of the voices of predators such as owls and hawks
    • Siren
  • Before the arrival and nesting season for crows, make your site unattractive to them.
  • To scare away crows, use several methods at the same time.
  • Change the way you scare crows so that the birds do not have time to get used to them and understand that nothing threatens them.
  • Try to find out more about the local crow population by searching the internet or talking to local nature lovers and bird watchers.

What can you do away with??? Are there any resources available??

johnny lime 15-06-2014 12:53

Difficult... If you can't shoot, all that remains is to record the alarming cry of crows on the player and turn it on on the balcony as it gets dark to drive them away from the night... Or, observing T B, do window venting from a suitable device...

I(rainov EV 15-06-2014 08:47

I had a similar story, only they didn’t let me sleep in the mornings)), I bought a CF-30 din, put a GP with a moderator and drove away this brethren in a week. I took off about a dozen until they realized that it was dangerous for them to park here!)) Now, not a single beauty sits closer than 100 meters - they are afraid)) and they have a good memory.
Only after shooting I think that it is necessary to change the digital filter to the PCP)))

It is worth feeding them with salted products, according to unverified information, parrots, having drunk salt, die only on the way.

I live in apartment building. I park the car at the entrance, every morning the car is crap in the trash. Car washes rejoice. I hunt myself, but you can’t shoot in the city. How to be??? Of course, you can put the car in another place, but today one bitch pulnula on the head

Leave the corpse on the nearest roof (so as not to be seen by strangers). At first they will croak, but then they will stay away from your yard. It works on crows, not sure about jackdaws.

R-140m 21-06-2014 09:20

If possible, shoot, you can not from a powerful one,
the main thing is to hit, the nix will fly apart.

Pal/Bor 21-06-2014 10:25

Most likely, some of the trees they have is "generic". The jackdaws are stupid, but not so much that they would not understand that those who fell from this tree will not return to the crowd. (It must be calculated, and dump a couple of them from it)
It’s better to scare a raven! She must understand that a “fur-bearing animal” only by “accident” flew and ran past. They understand very well!

Shoot them from the car. Not necessarily from pneumatics, you can at least from a slingshot!
I repelled the crows from my summer cottage. They pecked out the seeds that the wife planted. I shot at them from a primitive IZH-38 (well, those in shooting ranges). At first, they flew away only at the sight of me with a rifle. Then (when he began to use a slingshot), just at my appearance. Set up an ambush and take down another one. Now they fly around my site whenever my car is parked there!
Mother-in-law (lives in the country all summer) said that if there is no car, then they sometimes appear.
So if you teach them that it is with this machine that the danger is connected, then they will fly around it.
P.S. I couldn't get my mother-in-law to shoot crows with a slingshot...

There was a similar situation. One shot with a "glare" was enough in the evening for the night. How the grandmother whispered.))))

The bird's death is called DIAZINON, it is sold in ampoules in household stores (1 ml, price 15 rubles), the commercial name is "anteater", they are poisoned by this only on the way, will they eat minced meat with such a "seasoning" xs.

What is the crow afraid of?

I often visit the fishing village of Vyshka in the Limansky district of the Astrakhan region. Fish is dried in almost every yard of this village. And crows also love such fish and therefore steal, and where they cannot drag it away, they hammer the hanging one and thereby spoil it. I asked the fishermen how they scare away the hag (as the locals call the gray crow). Some pull the nets over the hung fish, but the crow hollows out the fish through the nets. Others hang a gun next to the fish, but this does not help either. Still others build a scarecrow, and the hag is not afraid of it.

One morning, the owner of the house where I was staying hung a fish to dry and, leaving for work, asked me to look after it so that the crows would not steal it. The day was sunny and warm, it was April. I chose an observation post. Without delay, four hags sat around the fish. The crows flew from place to place, cautiously and carefully examined the fish, but did not dare to peck. What are they afraid of? Need to find out. I came out of hiding, the crows instantly scattered and sat on the roofs in the neighborhood, from where they carefully watched me. Checked out the fish. And I didn't find anything intimidating. Went into hiding. The guards immediately surrounded the fish, but they did not dare to peck. What kind of occasion? I approached the place a second time and drew attention to a thin white thread stretched over the fish for some unknown reason. It happened by accident. But can't some thin thread frighten an impudent bird? I removed the thread and went into hiding. The crow immediately pounced on the fish, from which the husk flew in all directions. I again pulled a thin white nylon thread over the fish and hid. The hags immediately flew up, but none of them dared to peck the fish.

So that there would be no doubt, I decided to continue the experiment. I started by finding four gray crow nests around the village. He climbed the first tree, barely reached the nest. It contained four grayish speckled warm eggs. Above the nest, at a height of about 15 cm, I tied a white thin nylon thread crosswise. Then he found a second nest and got to it, it contained only two eggs. And he was christened. The third nest contained four testicles. And above them put a thread cross. And above the fourth nest, where three eggs lay, he made a cross from thick twine. After that, he moved away from this place. And he returned to look at the result of his manipulations, when already a huge crimson luminary was leaning towards the west.

Above the first nest, hanging her massive beak, the mistress of the nest was dejectedly sad. I even thought she was crying. But to sink into your own nest - there is not enough courage. Went to the second one. Above him sat a gloomy, puffed-up, angry gray hag, with her head drawn into her neck, and only watched me with her eyes. I quickly retired so as not to interrupt the flow of her sad thoughts. When I approached the third nest, the mistress of the nest met me with a furious cry. She flew over me and screamed furiously, angrily. Not wanting to listen to her angry scolding, I went to the fourth nest. When he came close to him, he saw the tip of a black tail on the edge of the nest. A crow sat in it as if nothing had happened - which means that a thick thread is not good. The next day, after breakfast, I went to check my experience. On the way to the nests, I was greeted with a frantic cry by a large horde of crows. They circled over me and yelled. Three nests were abandoned, in the fourth, as on the previous day, a crow sat under a twine cross. I had to remove the twine and replace it with a thread. For two more days I checked the "baptized" nests. The result was excellent, and I thought that if the gray hags do not dare to sit in their own nests because of some kind of thread, then they will not dare to stick their crow's nose into someone else's.

And I decided to test it on the nests of other birds. But it was the middle of April, and nests with testicles will appear somewhere in the middle of May. On April 16, I flew to Moscow with the firm intention of returning in May and continuing my experience.

The remaining days of April quickly flashed by, more than half of May had passed. And so I fly by plane to Astrakhan, then go to the Higher School to continue the experience with the gray crow.

I'm getting the boat ready to sail. The omnipresent crows have already surrounded me, perched along the embankment along the ditch, waiting for the departure, they will accompany me as an honorary escort. So they do with every sailing boat. So the preparations ended, I got into the boat, pushed off with a pole and swam along the ditch, which stretches for about a kilometer. Crows flew ahead, perched along the ditch and waited for me. When I swam, they flew further. The ditch was left behind, boundless expanses of water opened up ahead, turned to the right along the thickets. I looked around and counted only five gray satellites, the rest fell behind.

Here the crows circled over the coot's nest, they were waiting for the coot, frightened of me, to leave the nest, and then it would be possible to profit. But the coot was in no hurry and let me come close to me and only then took off. The hags sat nearby and waited for my departure, I interfered with them. There were seven eggs in the nest, one of them had already hatched, and a red spout was visible from the hole and the squeak of a chick was heard. Over the nest I stretched a white thread with a cross and sailed away. When he retired to 20-30 meters, the crows greedily rushed to the nest. But... Some hovered over the nest, the rest sat around and stretched their necks, carefully examining the threads, but not one of them dared to grab the egg. After some time, the white bald head of the owner of the nest flashed among the bushes. She was in a hurry ... I waited until the coot sat down. So, thread crosses do not scare her.

The crows showed me several more nests, but for their efforts they did not receive a single egg as a reward and soon left me. In total, I "christened" 13 coot nests, which contained 78 eggs, and seven grebe nests, which contained 21 eggs. He also found six plundered nests, four of them were coots and two were great grebes. Apparently, the fishermen sailed past, and the accompanying gray thieves did their job when the birds jumped off their nests. On the way back I checked several "christened" nests. Birds sat quietly on them, and all the testicles were intact. The experience was a complete success.

It seems that this experience can be adopted by hunters. It will help them reduce the number of crows and preserve the clutches of hunting bird species.

White threads are stretched against the crows.
http://victor-dulin2009.mirtesen.ru/blog/43989029895

In Kazakhstan, Koreans use white threads (precisely white) No. 40-30 to save melons from crows. The effect is stunning - they say that crows see threads and consider them snares. Be that as it may, not a single crow and magpie sat on the field for the entire season.

Not so long ago, I talked on this topic with one veteran hunter from my OOiR. He sent me to a recently published book of which he is the author. Here is what is written there in brief: it was experimentally established that crows are afraid of a white thread stretched out on the way. For example, the author of the book stretched two white threads crosswise over the crow's nest and the bird did not sit on the nest under any circumstances. She sat higher or at a distance and stared at the barrier. This method was first tested by the author of the book when protecting dried fish, fresh barbecue and even vodka from crows. This does not work on other birds, although I can’t say anything about jackdaws.

The gray crow has long been the main neighbor of man along with pigeons, cats and dogs. A flock of crows that has taken a fancy to the trees outside the windows of houses brings a lot of trouble with their behavior, does not let them fall asleep with a loud croak, disturbs the peace of children, and even poses a threat to humans and domestic animals. How to get rid of the crows that live in your yard and deprive all the tenants in the area?

The gray crow is the most intelligent bird of the masses found in the places where people live. Possessing sharp eyesight and developed thinking, this creature realized a long time ago that people create a lot of food waste that is easily accessible. No need to fly dozens of miles in search of food, tasty food is found in garbage containers, landfills, on the streets of cities and towns. Therefore, a flock of crows builds nests in trees near human dwellings.

The crow causes particular danger and anxiety in the period from March to July, when it builds a nest, hatches chicks, then teaches them to hunt on their own. During this period, crows can attack any uninvited visitors on their territory. Birds are capable of inflicting serious injuries with their beak and claws on children, pets, especially brave ones are able to attack adult men. When the territory is violated, the crows croak long and piercingly, call their neighbors, filling the area with an incredibly annoying noise.

In practice, it is useless to frighten the crows with noise, they will not leave their home. It is impossible to shoot crows in people's places of residence - this is not humane, in addition, it is extremely difficult to hit a bird, and even more so to kill their population in a certain area.

The same applies to attempts to poison birds - there is a risk that other species of birds will suffer, and a crow is a smarter bird than rats and will not fall for poison bait so easily.

It is also impossible to get rid of crows by placing scarecrows, you cannot place scarecrows everywhere, it takes time and materials to make them, and the effect of them is insignificant.

In practice, there is only one humane and effective method drive the crows out of the yard for at least the next few years, it is not easy, but it always works:

In March, the birds are busy building and repairing their old nests. Accordingly, before the nesting period, it is necessary to shake off the old nests from the trees in the area and, upon the arrival of uninvited guests, do not let them build new ones, scare them away when the gray crow tries to pick up a twig or destroy newly built nests.

This is actually a humane way to get rid of crows. The crow is a smart bird and will understand the opposition, fly away and have time to build a nest at a decent distance from the area where it was frightened away during the construction of the nest. The gray crow loves safety and security. If they see that the nests will not be safe in the appropriate area, they will move the construction to a calm area.

Usually, crows coexist with members of their family from past broods, have a collective system of maintaining order and reconnaissance, respectively, if two or three pairs move to a new range, then other birds follow them. This way to get rid of crows in your yard and drive them away from your place of residence is of course troublesome, but this is the only way to keep your peace and sleep and ensure the safety of children and pets.
