Cold forging equipment

The machines used in cold forging can be manual or electric. If this activity is simple hobby, then manual equipment is quite sufficient. Workshops usually use electrical equipment that significantly increases productivity.

Preparation
I didn’t take any photos along the way, so I had to make a new thing.
I bought a metal jug at the store. True, he has, here are the Chinese inventors, holes in the sides.... So first he had to seal them with especially strong construction tape.

We polish and after drying - sand with coarse sandpaper over all folds, tears and other defects to give an aged, shabby look

Now I paint over the space around the napkins, and sand the folds.

The next stage is bitumen. I use this bitumen, which can be washed off with alcohol.

First, I apply the bitumen to a cotton swab, wipe the ENTIRE surface well with the bitumen, and almost immediately wipe off the bitumen with another fleece soaked in alcohol. It is better not to spread the bitumen too thickly at one time, but to darken the surface gradually by repeating the procedure several times.

After the bitumen has dried, we varnish it several times with acrylic varnish.

Imitation forged metal

For this I used
1+2 - epoxy glue and a stick for kneading and applying glue
3 - black laces for boots of different shapes and sizes. For the jug I took 2 types: flat and round. 3 types of laces were used on the Box - plain flat (handle and side cuts), round (lattice on the frame) and flat thick with relief (lattices on wooden lids).
4 - cardboard or a piece of plastic for mixing glue
5 - decorative cord with “rivets”

Attach the laces to the right places. The jug will have two “rims” on the top and bottom made of a flat cord, and from a round one - the edge of the spout and a twisted decoration on the handle. Since the jug is metal, all the cords are glued with epoxy. Some of the cords were glued to the box (ends, handle). For the lattice on the frame on the front of the drawer, I drilled holes along the top and bottom sides frames and pulled the cord. The gratings on the wooden lids were made in 2 stages: first, I secured the cords in a zigzag using a stapler, then I glued the cord on top along the perimeter with epoxy.

To imitate old metal, I chose the following three: brass paint - blue patina - patina neutralizer. The combination of colors may be against the truth, but... I like it that way! Here!

First, we paint it metallic 1-2 times, painting our “metal” well, and dry it.

Then I do this: I select several places where the patina will appear. I apply fresh paint to these places (and only to them), almost immediately - patina, and after a while, when the oxidation process begins, a neutralizer.

After everything has dried, coat it with varnish and glue the “rivets” onto epoxy.
