The Eighth International Naval Show is held from June 28 to July 2, 2017 in St. Petersburg (Lenexpo exhibition complex - Marine Station berth complex).
The Russian part of the exposition is represented by 105 companies. The largest stand at the show will be opened by the United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC). Here visitors will be able to get acquainted with 43 models of ships, vessels and other marine equipment. The corporation's delegation is headed by the head of USC Alexey Rakhmanov.
USC, in particular, will demonstrate scale models of the Project 955 Borei nuclear submarine, the Project 636 submarine with the Club-S complex, the Project 677E non-nuclear submarine "Amur-1650" with an air-independent power plant, the Project 23550 ice-class patrol ship, an export version multi-purpose frigate project 22356, other ships.
At the show, the Fizik torpedo in its export version will be demonstrated to the general public for the first time. The torpedo was recently adopted by the Russian Navy and is intended to replace the outdated USET-80, which was created in the 1980s.
Traditionally, at IMDS you can see warships life-size at the quay walls of the Marine Station. In total, 21 ships, boats and vessels from the Navy and the FSB border service will be presented.
As Alexey Rakhmanov previously reported, the United Shipbuilding Corporation plans to announce four new contracts at the naval show in St. Petersburg. He did not specify what agreements we're talking about.
Salon program
Visitors to IMDS 2017 will be treated to an extensive demonstration program. Thus, at the berths of the Marine Station, the Project 11540 patrol ship Yaroslav the Mudry, the Project 20380 Stoiky corvette, the Project 12700 base minesweeper Alexander Obukhov, as well as a number of boats from the Navy and the border service of the FSB of Russia will be presented.
As Vladimir Kozhin, assistant to the President of Russia for military-technical cooperation, previously stated at a press conference dedicated to the salon, potential foreign customers of Russian naval equipment show the greatest interest in boats intended for security coastal zone.
He said that today supplies of equipment for the Navy occupy the last place in the total volume of Russian arms exports (about 7%), but there are all the prerequisites for the growth of this indicator.
In addition, at the Rzhevka training ground of the Russian Ministry of Defense, the combat capabilities of ten naval artillery mounts, as well as samples of small arms, will be demonstrated to official foreign delegations.
New items at IMDS-2017
Among the new developments presented at the naval show is a naval version of the Pantsir-S anti-aircraft missile and gun system - Pantsir-ME, developed by the Tula Instrument Design Bureau.
This air defense missile system is capable of simultaneously hitting up to four targets flying at speeds of up to 1 thousand meters per second, the reaction time is three to five seconds. The naval "Pantsir" can hit targets with missile weapons at a range of up to 20 kilometers, at an altitude of two meters to 15 kilometers; and with artillery weapons - at a range of up to four kilometers and an altitude of zero to three kilometers.
At IMDS-2017, the Splav Research and Production Association will demonstrate modernized 90R1 anti-submarine missiles for the RPK-8 complex, which have not been supplied to military sailors for the last 15 years.
Compared to the original version of this weapon (the 90P missile), the 90P1 is eight to ten times more effective at hitting underwater targets. It operates at a range of up to 4.3 kilometers and a depth of up to one kilometer.

Sandpaper from St. Petersburg, where the eighth International Naval Show (IMMS) is taking place from June 28 to July 2. And two days before its closing, it can already claim the title of “The Best,” and it’s not even about the scale of the event. And not in the absence (habitual since 2015) of foreign warships, which is partly compensated by the large number of Russian pennants presented at the show. The latter, by the way, include:

No, it's not about this squadron. The point is the scale of the plans announced at IMDS-2017 to build up the forces and assets of the Russian Navy. Especially in terms of long-range surface ships maritime zone. In fact, at the 8th International Naval Show, the domestic defense industry announced a transition to a qualitatively new stage in the construction of ships and vessels for the Russian Navy.
Let us recall that at the first stage after the collapse of the USSR, it was about maintaining the combat effectiveness of the most modern fleet units. On the second, the emphasis was on starting to update the underwater component of the strategic nuclear forces (strategic nuclear forces of the Russian Federation), introducing missile complex"Caliber", an attempt to build universal landing ships at foreign shipyards, replenishment of the Baltic Fleet with new corvettes, as well as for construction for the needs Black Sea Fleet new frigates and diesel-electric submarines (diesel-electric submarines).
Perhaps the most discussed news at the salon is information that the Navy is busy determining the appearance and characteristics of the future new Russian aircraft carrier.
The Russian Navy is not abandoning the development of a destroyer with a nuclear power plant, Project 23560 Leader. The ship's design will be developed by the Northern Design Bureau.
USC (United Shipbuilding Corporation) enterprises have begun developing a project for the universal landing ship-helicopter carrier Priboi. The ship with a total displacement of 23 thousand tons is expected to be equipped with a gas turbine main power plant. The construction of "Priboev" is included in the new state program weapons for 2018-2025.
The Nevskoye PKB (design and construction bureau), based on a modular design, will develop for the Navy designs for an amphibious helicopter-carrying dock ship with a displacement of about 15 thousand tons and a UDC (universal landing ship) with a displacement of about 30 thousand tons. Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Navy for Armaments, Vice Admiral Viktor Bursuk, clarified that the Navy plans to receive two UDCs by the end of 2025.
The Krylov State Scientific Center has developed a conceptual design for a corvette with 24 launchers of the Caliber complex instead of eight, like its predecessors. The normal displacement of the corvette will be 1980 tons, and the full speed will be 30 knots.
Contrary to earlier rumors, the second three frigates of Project 11356 - Admiral Istomin, Admiral Butakov and Admiral Kornilov - will not be sold to India. The frigates will be completed for the Russian Navy. This decision is logically linked to the message of USC President Alexei Rakhmanov that Russia will get rid of dependence on Ukraine for production from mid-2018 gas turbine units for surface ships.
In 2018, the second corvette of Project 20386 will be laid down in St. Petersburg.
By the end of 2020, the Zelenodolsk Shipyard will build five MRKs (small missile ships) of Project 22800 Karakurt for the Russian Navy.
By 2025, the fleet will receive four new Project 677 Lada diesel-electric submarines.
The United Engine Corporation has begun testing M90FR gas turbine engines intended for Project 22350 frigates at a new testing complex in Rybinsk.
United Engine Corporation resumed production of AL-31F series 3 turbojet engines designed for carrier-based fighters Su-33. The first batch of engines has already been produced and delivered to the customer.
The Pantsir-ME anti-aircraft missile and artillery complex, developed by the Tula KBP (Instrument Engineering Design Bureau), was demonstrated. There is information that the Russian Navy has already ordered a batch of such air defense systems for installation on new and modernized ships.

Well, a little strange - CEO"Admiralty Shipyards" Alexander Buzakov reported that the delivery of a series of six diesel-electric submarines of project 636 "Varshavyanka" for Pacific Fleet moves to 2022. According to Buzakov, this shift in timing turned out to be related to financing. If a lack of finance forces a delay in the construction of relatively cheap diesel-electric submarines of a project that has already been well-proven in construction and operation, then many other plans become doubtful.
However, the matter may be different - it is argued that the “childhood diseases” of Project 677 “Lada” boats are mainly rotational, moreover, an anaerobic (air-independent) power plant is almost ready for them, and accordingly the fleet would like to receive boats of this particular design instead of the old “Varshavyanka”, but only the St. Petersburg “Admiralty Shipyards” can build them - accordingly, the shipyards are unloading orders of old boats.
Non-nuclear submarines Project 677 have completely new properties - they combine even more low level noise than Project 636, with enormous autonomy (the boat can move without surfacing for 20-30 days, and the overall autonomy is comparable to nuclear submarines), while the boat can launch Caliber missiles with high intensity. That is, these are boats that acquire strategic qualities (attack missile carriers), while not formally falling under restrictive agreements and maintaining a relatively low price.
If everything goes well, the Navy wants to get as many of these boats as possible, even at the cost of cutting other programs. This has already been stated quite frankly.

The 8th International Maritime Show (IMMS) in 2017 will follow the same pattern as in previous years: engineers discuss new weapons and boring issues like guidance systems, and civilians are allowed on real ships on certain days.
IMDS is the largest professional event on naval topics in Russia, traditionally held in St. Petersburg and bringing together high-ranking military leaders and officials from several dozen countries. During the days of the show, the skies over the Northern capital are torn to pieces by the engines of Russian Knights and Swifts jets, which demonstrate extreme driving skills, and ships line up in the harbor near the Lenexpo exhibition complex Russian fleet, demonstrating its power to high-ranking military from different countries.
Experts come here to discuss professional issues such as navigation systems, guidance and other engineering things, and the civilian population is invited to visit the ships or at least look at them from the shore. In 2017, 13 ships will participate in the Naval Show: from patrol boats to corvettes and missile carriers. They will be open to the public from 1st and 2nd July from 10am to 5pm.

The organizer of IMDS-2017 is the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation.
