Painting glass vases with acrylics. For this job you will need

Do you like bright colors in the interior? If yes, then this article is for you. We will paint a vase for flowers with a stained glass pattern according to a pre-created sketch.

If you like the result, then it will not be difficult to apply the decor to another glassware in the house - to depict the exact same pattern or ornament on glasses, piles, candlesticks, fruit vases.

Painting on the glass of a vase according to the sketch of a stained glass drawing

It is not necessary to buy a new one, an old vase is also suitable for painting, even better, you will get an original new one from the old one.

The materials we need:

  • glass vase
  • Alcohol
  • Paints, contour for glass painting
  • tassel
  • Several cotton buds

Find on the Internet, and also print, or draw on paper the pattern of the picture that you want to see on your vase. You can do it differently. First, by creating a sketch in color, painting the gaps between the contours, for example, with colored pencils. Secondly, in the form of a template. In the first case, it will no longer be necessary to think about what shades, combinations to choose. I never prepare a ready-made scheme in color, it’s more convenient for me, I do this already on the spot.

We are very lucky that the vase is of such a shape! Why? Because I have to think about the complex shapes of the sketch, it will be absolutely rectangular.

After preparing the drawing or ornament in the right size, you put it inside the vase, securing it with tape in several places so that the picture stays in place. Since the vase is cylindrical, a rectangular sheet of paper is just right for us.

Before starting work, it is necessary to degrease the outer surface of the glass on which we will paint, so that the dyes lie better and then do not peel off. The contours are sold for convenience with special tips with a hole at the end, the paste comes out of them in the form of a "sausage".

Gel paste is sold in tubes, it comes in a variety of colors. Starting from classic black, ending with metallic shades - gold, silver.

Draw directly on your printed or drawn pattern, it is clearly visible through the transparent glass surface. If something went wrong with you (the line went crooked, too thick in one place, interrupted), then do not be upset, everything can be corrected, only right away, without postponing until later, until the contours have dried up. To do this, we use cotton wool on sticks.

When this part is ready, leave the vase, wait until it dries completely. You do not want to spoil the painting ahead of time. A wet gel can be accidentally smeared easily.

The next stage is the "coloring" of the gaps between the contour lines. Work with a brush carefully, do not immediately take a lot of liquid from the jar to the brush. Keep the vase as horizontal as possible because the paint can run. Take breaks, then some areas will have time to dry, it will be easier to draw, do not accidentally “stumble” with your finger.

When the painting is completely ready, again leave the product alone. Then it remains only to put in the oven and bake the paints (if you chose just such), read the instructions carefully, there should be how long and at what temperature you need to keep the products heated.

You need to put the painted glass inside the oven while it is not yet turned on, and take it out only when it has completely cooled down.

It is better to use materials from the same manufacturer in each individual case. Different people have different times, as well as the hardening temperature of the ink layer.

Of course, this motif is very simple, but you can try to find something more difficult to paint a vase or other decorative kitchen utensils.

This item is an ordinary candlestick. You can also pour water into it, put a small bouquet of flowers, there will be a vase. The technique is the same - stained glass painting, partially dotted. The drawing is abstract, reminds me of the seabed, algae, sea anemones, air bubbles. In the evening, when there is a candle in it, it gives an amazing effect.

Another method of decorating a vase is the mosaic technique. We use only glass - as a base, as well as a surface cladding. In principle, any form can serve as a basis. The picture shows one option, in the post you will find another interesting subspecies - decorating the inner surface of a wide wooden bowl with mirror fragments. If we take multi-colored tiles, lay them out with a pattern, we get a semblance of painting.

Examples of interior decoration, natural materials are used in the work. An uncomplicated, but interesting pattern on the decor is made with the help of obliquely cut stems of plants growing near the water, along the banks of the adjoining rivers, lakes, marshes, where there is shallow but enough moisture. Pre-harvested reeds, cattails, other varieties of marsh flora, rush, calamus are used. Animal figurines can be made in the same way.

Another very large set of ideas for glass painting can be taken from the book by Alan Gere and Barry Freestone “Glass Painting: 20 wonderful Art Nouveau projects, such as the 2 following MKs:

A vase with peacock feathers and a vase with a silver pattern given in the above book

Glass painting workshop: Bottle with peacock feathers.

For painting in the form of peacock feathersSheets of transparent self-adhesive film

Peacock feathers (other types of feathers can be used as a material)

Self-adhesive lead tape 3 mm wide
glass vase Pencil with gold paint
gold foil sheet Water colors.

1. Using a dry, spatula-shaped brush, apply a thin layer of water-based paint to the self-adhesive film. On the wet paint at the top of the film, carefully lay out the feathers and fan them out. Lightly press down on the feathers with your fingers. Do not apply more paint until it dries. to which you attached the feathers. When applying the next layers of paint, make sure that the feathers do not move

2. When the first coat of paint is dry and the feathers are firmly adhered to the base, cover them with a thin layer of transparent paint. While the paint is still wet, attach pieces of gold foil to the feathers in a deliberate mess. Apply a coat of clear paint on top to secure the foil tightly. Let the paint dry.

3. When the paint is completely dry, apply with a special pencil with gold paint lines over the entire surface of the film. Arrange them randomly. Let the paint dry.

4. Squeeze onto film a small amount of transparent and iridescent colors. Spread them over the film with your finger from top to bottom. Let the paint dry thoroughly by placing the film in a warm place, preferably overnight.

5. When the paint is dry, cut the film into pieces equal in size to the sides of the vase. Attach the film to one side of the vase. If you have not successfully glued the film, peel it off at one end and stretch it slightly, attach it to the surface of the vase again. Paint the other sides of the vase in the same way.

In the next work, we used glass bottles blue color and from under mineral water, which were covered with an exquisite ornament resembling lace. Such an ornament is applied with a silver outliner and looks like a filigree work made of metal.
You can use other bottles with straight, even sides as a material. For example, a green wine bottle can be decorated usingoutlinergolden color - in this case, your product will look extraordinarily luxurious.
Such a bottle can be filled with fragrant bath oil or used as an original candlestick by inserting a candle into the neck. And a few bottles grouped together can be an elegant accent on the dining table.

You will need:
- a bottle of blue glass with smooth sides-templates
- exfoliating paper-scotch - outliner- scissors - adhesive spray - pen with silver paint
Advice: Before you get started, make sure you stock up on materials. In this case, you will need a large amount of outliner - it will be very annoying if you have to interrupt work halfway through.

1. Lay the peel paper on top of the template designed to decorate the base and neck of the bottle. Fasten the tracing paper and the template with adhesive tape in order to avoid displacement of the pattern.

2. Using silveroutliner, copy the drawing to paper. Gradually outline small areas of the pattern with the outliner, while holdingoutlinerperpendicularly and draw enough voluminous lines. Let the paint dry completely.

3. Pour a little outliner paint into a small container. Paint over certain parts of the composition with such paint, as shown in the photo. Apply a large enough amount of paint so that it "stacks" slightly to the middle of the wide line that you draw, then blend the paint. Let the paint dry overnight.

4. Carefully remove the pattern from the paper. This will be made much easier if you lay the design paper face down and carefully peel off the tracing paper. After that, do not touch the pattern for several minutes.

5. Lay the design face down on your work surface and, after placing the bottle on it, “wrap” it with the mesh from the outliner. Cut off the excess pattern. Decorate the neck of the bottle in a similar way. If you're going to use the cork, paint it with metallic silver paint.

Advice: outliner, intended for applying a pattern, should be thick enough. A pattern made with liquid outliner will tear when removed from the paper. Before starting work, carry out a proof test for the density of the outliner. and further:: The pattern applied by the outliner can be removed from the bottle at any time if desired. If you want to fix it extremely firmly, apply glue to the back of the pattern with a spray can, and then “wrap” the bottle in the pattern.

Learn the stained glass master class. author - Nadezhda Molkentin "Molly"

Hello! Perhaps there are many such master classes, but I hope mine will be useful and interesting for someone! I "got sick" with glass painting, as soon as I tried it for the first time, I am fascinated by the result, multi-colored glass has its own special charm, charm, mystery. Any product after painting is transformed, from a simple glass it becomes almost a work of art. Maybe you will like it too?

So, we buy any glass vase you like, prepare the materials - and get to work, I'm sure the final result will not leave you indifferent!

Before starting work, we need to prepare the product. In order for the paint to lay flat, the surface of the vase must be degreased. Any universal solvent is suitable for this, or you can simply wash the product thoroughly with dishwashing liquid.

Next, we prepare a sketch and transfer it to the surface of the vase. To do this, take a sheet of paper and circle all the edges of the vase with a pencil. Then we put our sketch on a sheet of paper. All this can be done using a computer, then just print the picture right size. Even if you don't know how to draw, you can find thousands of interesting stencils and drawings on the Internet that can be used to paint glass.

Then we take a sheet of carbon paper, adhesive tape and glue a sketch with a carbon paper to our vase. We circle the drawing. We remove the paper and get a vase with a translated pattern.

You can do it differently, stick the sketch to the inside of the vase, for example, with double-sided tape, and draw immediately with a contour. In each case, choose the most convenient option.

Now it remains to prepare necessary tools to work and get down to the most important thing.

So, we need: stained glass paints, contours, brushes, solvent, palette, napkins, toothpicks and a breadboard knife.

Let's start with paints: they come in two types - water-based and alkyd-based (solvent-based). Water-based paints must be fired in the oven after application. They are usually used for painting dishes, as they are less dangerous to humans.

For decorative interior elements, it is better to use solvent-based paints. After drying, they are very resistant, the effect of colored glass is obtained. Paints are liquid and fluid. In order to get the effect of a stained glass window and the colors do not flow into each other, contours are used. They also come in baked and non-baked. Water soluble contours are used with baked inks and vice versa. We will paint with solvent-based paints and contour.

for painting small items a synthetic brush with number 0 or 1 is suitable. With such a thin brush it is very convenient to apply paint to small details without climbing onto the contour.

Solvents come from different companies, are sold in art stores along with paints, but you can also use ordinary white spirit or nail polish remover. We will need a solvent for washing brushes and, possibly, for diluting paints that are too thick.

Pill blisters are ideal for a palette, but you can use foil by making notches in it.

When everything is prepared, we proceed to drawing the contour. How carefully the contour is applied will depend to a greater extent appearance all finished work. Therefore, it is important that you have comfortable light workplace, and elbows rested on the table. When drawing a contour, special skill is needed, which comes with experience. We take a tube, bring the nose to the line of the drawing and begin to evenly press on it and at the same time lead along the line. Do not worry if you do not immediately get a perfectly even line, thickening can be corrected with a toothpick after the contour dries a little. If you need to completely remove any unsuccessful line - for this we simply cut it off with a blade or a breadboard knife.

After applying the contour to the entire face, it is necessary to let it dry; for the contours of different companies, the drying time varies, but on average not less than an hour. Next, turn our vase over and draw a contour on the next face.

When the whole drawing is outlined, we proceed to the most interesting thing - applying paints. Here it all depends on your imagination and your color perception, choose the colors to your liking and get to work.

Open a jar of paint and pour a few drops on our palette. Stained glass paints are very economical in use and dry quickly in the air, so you don’t need to pour a lot, it’s better to add as needed; and be sure not to forget to immediately close the can of paint, otherwise the paint may thicken and dry.

It is better to fill all the details with one color first, then use a new paint. The smaller the segments you get in the drawing, the easier it will be to fill them, and the paint will lay down more evenly. We take a brush, dip the very tip into the paint and lower the drop into our outlined segment. Then, as it were, we stretch this drop with a brush in different directions to get an even, uniform fill. It is very important to bring the paint to the contour itself, but at the same time not to fit on it.

In order to understand how evenly and efficiently we laid the paint - let's look at our product in the light, all the flaws will immediately be clearly visible and you can quickly fix everything before the paint dries. It is important that each segment be filled immediately and completely, if part of the paint is dry, then when filling in the rest of the field, a border will be visible that cannot be removed.

We filled in all the segments of the same color - we take a new paint and paint over the segments of a different color. To make the shade of the color less saturated, you can use a transparent medium - a colorless paint, usually found in all manufacturers of stained glass paints. Thus, we fill in all the segments on the edge of our vase. It is much easier to draw on flat surfaces than on convex ones (the paint does not flow), so it is better for beginners to start with such products. But here it is important that all the paint on one side is completely dry before starting to paint over the next. The main thing here is not to rush, the paints dry for a long time (3-4 hours), if you start working before drying, the paint can leak or wear off, and this will ruin the appearance of the product, and it is very difficult to fix such mistakes. Little by little we fill in all the faces and get our painted vase. I am sure you will be amazed by the effect.

Here is the final result:

So, tune in to the fact that glass painting is a rather painstaking task, it takes a lot of time, requires attention and skill - and go for it! I think the result is worth it to spend your time and effort on it. Enjoy sparkling, iridescent colors. I am sure that after the first experience you will want to paint more than one piece of glass in your house.

Painting glass vases is usually much easier to do than painting, for example, glasses. Firstly, these dishes are not used for food, which means that special firing is not required. Secondly, the surface of the vase is larger; accordingly, glass painting in this case may be devoid of small details, the execution of which requires a professionally perfected technique.

Do-it-yourself vase painting with transparent paints

Painting a decorative vase at home can be done using masking tape, which protects surface areas from staining. In this case, transparent paints of two colors are used, which gradually mix with each other, which gives a persistent tonal effect. It is easy to find glass vases in stores various shapes; you can also take an old water carafe, a vessel for storing wine from which the cork is lost, or an ordinary jar, as in the exercise

To paint a vase with your own hands, you will need:

  • glass vase
  • masking tape
  • Knife and cutting board
  • Transparent paints for glass (red and yellow)
  • white spirit or water
  • Palette for mixing paints
  • Big brush.

Step-by-step master class on painting a vase:

Before washing a vase, carefully read the instructions for handling the paint with which it was painted. As a rule, such products can be wiped with a cloth - dry or slightly moistened with cold water. If you want the service life of the product to be long, use crystalline gel: after firing in the oven, objects covered with them can be washed.

See a photo of how to paint a vase:

Artistic painting of a vase in the style of Van Gogh sunflowers

The great painter Van Gogh gave the world many magnificent paintings. They are priceless, they cannot be repeated, but you can draw motives. The painting "Sunflowers" was created by a Dutch artist many years ago and was not in demand during his lifetime, but now it is worth millions and is widely copied around the world. Let's imagine ourselves as great artists for a minute and draw a mini version. Do not try to repeat to the smallest detail what has already been created once! Create your masterpieces, every speck is the highlight of the picture.

To paint a glass vase, you will need:

  • White Spirit
  • cotton pads
  • vase
  • Liquid stained glass outline gold color
  • Mini brush set
  • Paint set.

Performing work on hand-painted vase:

Advice: If you are not so good at drawing, do not despair. You can buy an adhesive stencil that sticks to ceramic or glass and paint is applied.

Caring for painted glass objects

Decorative glass objects painted with paints cannot be used in everyday life without following some rules. Of course, you can varnish the products, which will make them more durable and protect against scratches (many paints come with a suitable varnish), but even in this case, adhere to the following care rules:

  • Do not place painted glass items in dishwasher and do not use detergent.
  • Do not soak for a long time, do not wipe with force.
  • The best way to clean a painted glass item is to gently wipe it with a soft cloth dampened with warm water.
  • To improve the water and light resistance of the product, apply a thin layer of varnish to the painted surface with a wide brush immediately after the paint has dried.

Vases made of glass or ceramics, painted and decorated with your own hands, can be a great gift, wedding decoration or decor item for your home. Hand painting on glass / ceramics, depending on the desired pattern and technique, can be either complex, requiring skills, or very simple, accessible to beginners.

Master class number 1: Stylish geometry for beginners

To create such a laconic and stylish decor for a vase with your own hands, you do not need to be able to draw - even and neat stripes, zigzags and intersecting lines can be created using masking tape.

You will need: spray paint, acrylic or stained glass paint for glass and ceramics, a brush (a synthetic brush is suitable for acrylic paints, a natural brush for stained glass), masking tape (better of different widths), as well as nail polish remover or alcohol to degrease the surface, cotton pads and sticks

Drawing technique:

  1. Degrease a ceramic or glass vase with a cotton pad and any degreaser;
  2. As soon as the surface dries, we glue the vase with adhesive tape according to the stencil principle, for example, as shown in these photos (scroll to the right).

Tip: A very beautiful effect can be achieved by pasting the vase with narrow tape as shown below.

  1. We put the vase on the newspaper and begin to carefully paint over the unglued areas and the bottom, going over the adhesive tape so that the edges of the pattern on the vase are clear. This master class uses spray paint, but you can use acrylic or stained glass paints, and also add contours to the drawing.
  2. Now it remains to wait for the paint to dry completely. Drying time for all paints is different, so you need to focus on the manufacturer's instructions. Spray paints dry very quickly and do not require baking, but acrylic and stained glass paints can usually be baked by placing the vase in the oven for 15 minutes at 150 degrees, or allowed to dry naturally for 2-4 hours.

For your inspiration, we have selected the most beautiful ideas for decorating vases with your own hands using adhesive tape. Take a look at the photo below - this simple decor can decorate even the most elegant wedding.

Floor vases are very large, and therefore hand-painting on them is a long and laborious process, but using adhesive tape as a stencil, you can decorate them as quickly as possible.

Be careful when choosing paint colors. Unusual shades, such as gold, silver, copper, pastel, as well as white and black, will immediately turn an ordinary glass or ceramic vase into a designer decor item.

Master class number 2: Dot painting of a vase

For those who are not looking for easy ways and want to decorate a vase with a more complex pattern, we suggest mastering the technique spot painting, which is also called pique or point-to-point.

You will need: alcohol or acetone, cotton pads and sticks for degreasing and correcting the pattern, and for drawing, prepare high-quality contour paints, for example, from Marabu or Decola. Also you can use acrylic paints and a small synthetic brush, Q-tip, or toothpick.

Drawing technique:

  1. First you need to degrease the vase and wait for it to dry.
  2. Dot painters can apply a design to a vase without the help of sketches, masterfully improvising in the process of creation. But it is better for novice decorators to first outline the outlines of the desired pattern.

  • You can transfer the picture to an opaque vase using a soft, simple pencil: print or draw a picture in a suitable size, cut it out, and put it on another sheet of paper “face down”, and then carefully paint over the wrong side of the leaf with a picture with a pencil. Your task is to generously cover the entire area of \u200b\u200bthe picture with a lead. Now you should attach and fix with adhesive tape a piece of paper painted inside out to the vase, and then draw the outlines of the picture with the same pencil (preferably blunt) as shown in the photo on the right. Thus, a barely noticeable sketch will remain on the surface, which will make your work easier;
  • To paint a glass vase, just print or draw an auxiliary sketch by hand, and then glue it on the back.

Tip: when choosing a pattern for transparent vase remember that the patterns or images on its walls will intersect with each other. Therefore, it is better to place the main drawing on one side of the vase, and apply a background, that is, an unobtrusive painting, to the rest of it.

  1. Before you start painting vases, practice putting dots of the same size on paper, maintaining an equal interval, which should be such that the dots are distinguishable, but at the same time form a single unbroken line.

Test all contours - they should not be liquid and thick. Also prepare a needle to clean the tip of the tube and a cotton swab to correct a failed drawing.

If applying a bitmap directly from the tube seems difficult to you or you don’t have contour paints, it doesn’t matter, use acrylic paints. Dots of different sizes can be set using improvised means - an eraser on a pencil, toothpicks, needles, a cotton swab, a small brush, and even its blunt end, as shown in the photo.

  1. When the drawing is finished, put the vase in the oven to bake according to the manufacturer's recommendations. As a rule, paints dry completely in 24-72 hours naturally or by baking in the oven for 30 minutes at a temperature of 170 degrees (if you used baked contours). Of course, large floor vases that do not fit in the oven should be dried naturally.

Ideas for decorating a ceramic vase can be gleaned from the following selection of photos.

And here are examples of spot painting on glass.

Master class number 3: Stained glass painting of a glass vase

Contours can be drawn not only in point technique- in combination with stained glass paints, hand-painted vases can imitate stained glass.

You will need: degreaser, cotton pads and sticks, contours, stained glass paints, a natural brush, as well as an auxiliary sketch, printed or hand-drawn (if necessary).

Tip: stained glass paints come in different bases. For painting a vase, paints on alcohol or water are suitable. Also keep in mind that non-baking paints need to be fixed with a special varnish for stained glass painting. This option is more suitable for decorating a large floor vase that does not fit in the oven, otherwise it is better to buy baked paints.

Drawing technique:

  1. Degrease the glass;
  2. Secure the sketch from the inside of the vase;
  3. Starting from the back of the drawing, draw closed contours, adjusting the lines if necessary. Then let the contours dry for about 2 hours. A hair dryer or baking in the oven for 15 minutes (150 degrees) will help speed up the process;
  4. Now you need to fill the contours with paint, spreading it evenly with a brush. Stained glass paints are fluid and liquid - you need to get used to them. The main principles are that the stained glass paint must be in contact with the contour, and “non-painting” must also not be left.
