BEKO is known all over the world trademark, under which the Turkish company Arcelic produces household appliances. Arcelik was established in 1955 and today is part of the Koc Holding group. The company was founded by Turkish engineer Vehbi Koch. Koch began his business with the trade in building materials. He worked for the family company Koczade Ahmet Vehbi Trading Company for 20 years, after which he decided to expand the scope of his activities. In 1944, Koç opened Turkey's first car dealership. Ten years later, Koch, together with the Bejerano company, registered the BEKO trademark. Under this brand, two firms were going to establish the production of canned food and tomato paste. The trademark name combined the first letters of the names of the companies - Bejerano and Koc. But when starting a new business, problems arose. It was not possible to start the production of canned food. The BEKO plant received a new name - Beko Ticaret A.S. Arcelik entered into an agreement with and the factory began to produce electric light bulbs. Beko Ticaret A.S. became the first factory in Turkey that was engaged in the production of light bulbs.

New BEKO Achievements

Vehbi Koch did not stop at his achievements and directed the production of the company in a new direction. In 1959, Arcelik launched its first washing machine. In 1960, the first refrigerator of the company rolled off the assembly line of the Arcelik factory. Over time, Koch began to establish the production of other types of household appliances. By 1977, this production was already mass. The equipment was produced under the BEKO brand and by 1983 became very popular among buyers.

Arcelik's managers agreed that each plant should specialize in the production of one type of product. In this regard, in 1977, the construction of a number of factories began.

A little later, Arcelik, together with the Turk Demir Dokum company, created the Ardem company, which was engaged in the production of heaters and cookers. In 1979, a factory producing vacuum cleaners began its work in Izmir. The expansion of Arcelik's product range continued until 1996. During this period, two more factories were built - for the production dishwashers and air conditioners.

In 1999 and 2000 significant changes took place in the structure of Arcelik. Firms Ardem and Arcelik were merged into one. Koc Holding Durable Consumer Goods Group is undergoing reforms, as a result of which BEKO is separated from Beko Ticaret A.S. and joins Arcelik A.S.
