J 30 PREPARATION FOR Pull-out table for sewing The pull-out table provides additional working surface and can be easily removed for sewing in the round. V g * Connecting the machine to the power source Before connecting the power, make sure that the voltage and frequency of the power supply correspond to the ratings of the machine. Make sure the switch is in the "OFF" position. Insert the unidirectional plug into the cord outlet and connect the machine to the power source. Then turn on the power. (Fo« and. S. A.) V Foot drive The stitching speed can be changed by a foot drive. The stronger the pressure on the drive, the faster the machine sews. Attaching and Removing the Presser Foot Releasing the Presser Foot Turn the handwheel of the sewing machine towards you until the needle rises to its highest position. Raise the presser foot. Press the lever located on the back of the presser foot holder. The presser foot will release. Installing the Presser Foot Position the presser foot so that the presser foot pin lies directly under the groove of the presser foot holder. Lower the presser foot holder until it locks the presser foot. 5 l Changing needles Raise the needle by rotating the handwheel of the sewing machine towards you, and lower the presser foot. Loosen the needle lock bolt by turning it counterclockwise. Remove the needle from the clamp. Insert the new needle into the clamp so that the flat side faces away from you. When installing the needle into the clamp, insert it as far as possible until it stops, and firmly tighten the clamp bolt using a screwdriver. Check needles frequently for burrs or dull points. Dropped stitches and needles on knits, fine silks and silk fabrics cause permanent damage, which is almost always caused by a flawed needle. Always test thread and needle size on a small piece of fabric that will be used for the actual sewing. Use the same thread for the needle and bobbin. When sewing stretchy, very thin fabrics and synthetics, use a needle with a BLUE HEAD. The blue head needle successfully prevents skipped stitches. When sewing very thin fabrics, sew over a sheet of paper to prevent the thread from warping. Installing the Spool Pins The spool pins are used to hold the spool of thread to feed the thread to the machine. When using, pull out the spool pin. When storing, lower it down. § Upper thread Hole Thread gets tangled NOTE: When using thread that tends to get tangled around the spool pin, pass the thread through the hole in the spool pin as shown in the illustration. The hole should face the thread spool. 7 Removing and installing the bobbin case Open the cover.
