Semi-automatic tenoning machine for double-sided milling of TF round tenons. CNC oval tenoning machine Balestrini PICO CN Wood oval tenoning machine for oval tenon

The tenoning machine is designed to form round and oval tenons at various angles. The design of the copying unit allows for high processing accuracy with a productivity of 600 to 800 spikes/hour.

The fixed tables of the tenoning machine, on which the workpiece is placed, guarantee the absence of vibrations, regardless of the length of the parts.

Advantages of a tenoning machine

  • The ability to stop the tenon processing process at any point in the cycle (Balestrini patent);
  • High processing accuracy, because the workpiece is stationary during operation, but the block with the cutting tool moves;
  • Possibility of processing long parts without the use of special supports (application: parts of beds, benches, garden furniture, etc.);
  • The ability to almost completely close the tool, leaving only space for feeding workpieces, which has a positive effect on operator safety and also reduces noise.

Design features of the tenoning machine

The tenoning machine operates using Balestrini's patented "anti-chip cycle". In order to avoid chipping, cutting should occur from the outside inwards. To ensure this, the starting position of the tool must change depending on which table, right or left, is being processed.

Diagram “A” shows the traditional “anti-spin cycle” circuit.
And diagram “B” shows the diagram of the “anti-splinter cycle” used on a tenoning machine.
New system prevents the tool from re-passing the machined tenon, ensuring high quality and increasing productivity.

The tenoning machine has the ability to adjust the tables in height, in the transverse and frontal directions, as well as inclination. All adjustments are made using handwheels or keys (included in the basic tenoning machine). All adjustments have scales, as well as fixed zero points calibrated during the manufacture of the tenoning machine.
The position of the desktop is securely fixed using comfortable handles.

Adjusting the tenon sizes

Two digital size indicators located on back side tenon cutting machine help to fine-tune the length and thickness of the resulting tenon. Depth
the tenon is adjusted with a tool. The inclination of the spike from 0 to 90 degrees relative to its axis is carried out by rotating the working unit relative to the radius scale. This model of tenoning machine is equipped with mechanical tilt angle locks in any position.

The patented anti-splinter machining cycle guarantees high machining precision without loss of productivity.

The adjustable milling head is equipped with standard knife plates.

Options, descriptions

The machine mills both horizontal and vertical oval tenons with chamfers and trimming at the base on a straight or curved part (as a rule, frames of chairs, tables, furniture frames, etc.). Two fixed work tables are independently adjustable in height and tilt. The cutter carries out processing on each table in turn, allowing the operator to place the part on one table while processing is carried out on the other. Thus, the loss of working time is reduced and, accordingly, productivity increases. The tenon milling speed is adjustable and selected by the operator depending on the material being processed and the size of the tenon. All operations of the machine are controlled by the PLC, which, in addition, performs self-diagnosis of all electronic components of the machine and you can immediately determine from the indication on the PLC which element is faulty. In addition, the machine has an anti-splinter cycle mode to avoid chips on the tenon at the end of the milling cycle. As standard, the machine is equipped with mechanical counters for quick readjustment and setting of the thickness and height of the tenon. The length of the tenon is adjusted on the cutter.

Some elements of furniture or joinery are connected to each other “tenon-to-tenon”. A tenon is a protrusion at the end of one of two blanks that fits into a groove provided in the other. In this case, the landing dimensions of the tenon and groove are the same. “Tongue and groove” is considered one of the strongest connections. Only a tenoning machine can prepare certain parts for joining of such a plan as accurately as possible.

Below we will look at the features, characteristics and operating principle of this equipment.

Classification of machines

The spike is a rather labor-intensive element to make. In addition to reliable connection of components, it helps to lengthen the finished structure. It is almost impossible to make a tenon and a groove manually on two workpieces to create a hermetically sealed connection. For these purposes, specialized equipment is used.

According to the profile type, the spike is:

  • box (single, double, multiple);
  • round;
  • oval;
  • dovetail type in the form of an isosceles trapezoid;
  • toothed;
  • eyelet;
  • in the dark;
  • in semi-darkness.

The machines are divided into three groups according to the type of tenons produced:

  1. Equipment for the production of tenons for window, frame and door structures.

The spikes in this case are divided into:

  • one-sided,
  • bilateral,
  • returnable,
  • checkpoints.

The working body is saws or cutters for a tenoning machine (horizontal or vertical). A tenon-milling machine produces straight tenons or lugs that connect segments of frame or frame structures.

  1. Machines for dovetail tenons. Used in mass production furniture and carpentry. They differ from those previously named by more reliable fixation of the segments.

  1. Automatic CNC machines. With their help, complex joints are made - round and oval. Studs are subject to strict precision requirements, so most the work is performed by equipment, and human intervention is minimized.

The key requirement for the machine is high precision in the execution of connection elements. If it is not followed, the components will not be able to fit together correctly. The connection will be impossible or, at a minimum, not airtight, which will entail additional costs for raw materials.

Scope of use

In addition to carpentry and the manufacture of furniture structures, CNC machines for furniture production are used to solve a number of other problems. So, with the help of a tenon cutter you can:

  • process chipboard or calibrated wood panels;
  • adjust elements of door frames or window frames around the perimeter;
  • produce parquet boards.

Tenoning machines are absolutely indispensable at production bases, where they are used to perform high-precision splicing of wooden blanks.

The process includes the following steps:

  1. The equipment cuts toothed tenons on the side surface of the parts.
  2. The resulting teeth are coated with special glue and rigidly joined.
  3. The blanks are placed under a press and kept there for some time.

The above steps are carried out in automatic mode. The operator only sets the operating parameters, after which he controls the operation of the tenon cutter and press.

Technical characteristics of machines

Installations that make it possible to obtain the same type of stud may differ according to several criteria. Specifications devices are indicated in the product passport.

List of the most significant technical parameters, which you need to pay attention to when choosing a woodworking tenoning machine, are:

  • maximum size of processed workpieces;
  • the maximum width of the tenon created (or another value - diameter, side of a trapezoid, etc.);
  • maximum available tenon cross-section;
  • spindle rotation speed (responsible for the speed and quality of processing);
  • electric motor power;
  • the type of electrical network to power the motor (some models use current from a single-phase 220 V network, others need a three-phase line with a voltage of 380 V);
  • installation dimensions (the larger the dimensions, the weaker the vibration);
  • weight of the machine (affects the ease of transportation of the unit);
  • the type of spike the device is equipped to produce.

A CNC wood tenoning and slotting machine rarely moves from place to place during operation, so the last thing you need to evaluate the unit in terms of size and weight is where quality is more important geometry of the resulting spikes.

Operating principle of the device

It happens that the user needs to make four tenon connections for a personally assembled frame or door frame. Before starting operation, you must thoroughly study the specifics of the machine’s operation and the safety rules in the accompanying instructions. Processing wood blanks on a tenoning machine will allow you to achieve greater dimensional accuracy than if you do it yourself using a conventional tool.

Making studs using a machine involves six steps:

  1. Laying a piece of wood on a work table.
  2. Surface marking.
  3. Trimming according to design dimensions.
  4. Equipping the working head of the machine bed with a cutter of the required size.
  5. Milling work with workpieces.
  6. If necessary, the surface is trimmed so that the edges of the workpieces are aligned.

As a result, blanks with spikes or eyes of a given shape are obtained. Compliance with the given sequence of actions is the key High Quality the resulting components.

Tenoning machines are used not only in carpentry workshops or in serial furniture production. They are also purchased for periodic carpentry work at home. Such machines have the functionality of both a milling cutter and a tenon cutter at the same time, and are also characterized by:

  • light weight,
  • ergonomics,
  • low power,
  • the presence of a miniature carriage in the design.

Large manufacturing enterprises use high-tech, powerful and fully automated numerically controlled machines.

CNC allows you to produce tenons in a wide variety of characteristics - you just need to set the necessary parameters. The installations are easy to set up, simple to master, and the operator only occasionally checks the equipment to ensure correct operation.

Features of operation

Tenon cutter, like any other industrial equipment, requires the operator to have certain skills and knowledge of safety precautions.

Below we present some Interesting Facts and tips for operating tenoning machines:

  1. Large enterprises have long been convinced of the advantages of installing equipment on the ceiling. For this purpose, the machine can be equipped with special clamping structures. Reception of wood is carried out using scoring saws. The workpiece is fed to the miter saw, and a pair of detachable routers complete the processing.
  2. The higher the spindle rotation speed, the more accurate and high-quality the tenons with grooves are. The minimum frequency of movement of the element is 7000 rpm.
  3. Structurally, the tenon cutter allows for the simultaneous use of several woodworking tools.
  4. It is possible to complete the equipment with work table extensions and pneumatic clamping mechanisms.

The use of the machine makes it possible to significantly optimize the serial production of structures in which a tongue-and-groove connection is implemented. If the enterprise operates in moderate mode, and the equipment is purchased as an alternative to high-performance industrial lines, you can save significantly on its purchase.

Using a tenon cutting machine, even three-dimensional decorative elements are obtained. Cutting out parts with complex contours is also not a problem. And compactness, ease of operation, and high speed of adjustment of parameters make a CNC tenon cutter an indispensable assistant in any production.
