Does the SIM card affect the speed of the Internet. How does the speed of the Internet depend on the modem

If it seems to you that the Internet speed on your phone has dropped and it is below the average, then it is better to solve such a problem promptly. This may be due to your phone settings, a lot of background apps and updates, or a weak signal from your carrier. In the latter case, there is little you can do, except to change the mobile network to another carrier. It is still possible to try to speed up the mobile Internet using some applications, as well as practical advice to set up your phone. You will see all these methods in this article, take them into your arsenal and repeat on your smartphone.

How to increase internet speed on your phone using Internet Speed Master

This program has long been known to many, since it is she who is popular in the Play Market. It can work in rooted or non-rooted mode. To set up root rights, you will need other applications that provide such an opportunity.

  • Go to the Play Market or AppStore and find the Internet Speed Master program. The developer of the program must be Nez Droid, the installation will take only a couple of minutes even with slow internet.
  • When you open the app, you will see this message on your phone screen. It notifies you that the application may work and increase the speed of the Internet, or it may not work, as it all depends on your smartphone model. However, you can at least try.
    Click "OK" to continue.

The application has only two buttons if you are rooted and one button if you are not.

  • If you do not have root user rights, then click on the “Improve internet connection” field;
  • If you have such rights, then the “Apply patch” button will appear above. After pressing it, you will need to restart the device and check the Internet connection, if it does not suit you, then refer to the first step, which is performed without root rights.

That's it, now your Internet speed is optimized as much as possible in this application. If you do not like his work, then roll back the settings or simply remove the program from your phone.

You can get root rights in many applications, just write “Root” in the Play Market search. Of course, there is another way to get them: manually through the Android boot menu, but this is quite long.

How to increase internet speed on your phone with Internet Booster

  • Another application that works in a similar way, but gives a different result, is called Internet Booster. Find it in Play Market or AppStore. Install on your smartphone.

  • When you enter the application, you may encounter a message that you do not have root rights. They are also needed for this program to work, as in the first case.
  • Click on the round button with a lightning pattern in the middle of the screen to start optimization.

  • If you see a message such as in the screenshot below, then know that the acceleration was successful. Click "Cancel" and check your mobile internet or Wi-Fi speed now. If you are still not satisfied with the connection, then remove the applications.

How to increase internet speed on your phone: general tips

First of all, processes such as updates, background modes, and high traffic consumption can slow down the Internet. Adjusting your smartphone settings will help remove some of these barriers.

Turn off automatic updates

  • Go to the settings of your phone through the tray and find the line "Data usage".

  • Here you will need the line “Background mode”, go to it.

  • Turn on the slider at the very top of the screen by simply dragging it to the right with your finger.
  • Below you will see all the applications that are installed on the device. Disable sliders for apps you rarely use. This will prevent them from using internet traffic while they are in the background. This option will help you not only save precious traffic particles, but also speed up the Internet.

Clear your phone's cache

  • Find Smart Manager in the smartphone settings and go to the RAM section - this is your RAM, it is used for the processes running on the phone.

  • You will see a list of applications that are running on this moment in the background. Close those that you do not need at the moment, as well as those that can consume Internet traffic. Just click "Stop".

  • Next, go to the memory tab. Here you can see how much space you have used up on your phone and how much you have left.
  • Below you will see the section “Unnecessary data”. Click "Delete" and see how much free space you have. Clearing the cache should become an ongoing procedure that you will carry out once every two or three days so as not to accumulate junk on your smartphone.

Disable animated themes and live wallpapers

All this consumes not only energy and battery power, but also Internet traffic, in some cases. So that your connection does not occupy anything, it is better to remove such decorative elements from your phone.

In the settings, select the “Wallpaper” item and change them to static if you used animation. They also need to be removed from the lock screen.

Now your connection will become a little faster, because you got rid of a significant amount of information that clogged the connection.

Users cellular communication there is a strong opinion that the operator is solely responsible for the quality of the mobile Internet. But few people know that in addition to coverage, signal strength and network load, Internet speed also depends on a large number of other factors. Among them are chips and radio modules, operating systems and firmware of user devices, restrictions on specific sites, as well as the architecture of cities. The Internet project "Be mobile" decided to find out how big the influence of these factors on the speed of mobile Internet is.

We decided to investigate the dependence of Internet speed on various factors empirically. To do this, armed with eight smartphones of various classes and operating systems(2 devices each on iOS and Windows phone and 4 - on different versions of Android).

As part of the testing, we used the services of the MegaFon operator, one of the leaders in the quality of mobile Internet and 4G coverage in the Urals. For the purity of the experiment, only two SIM cards were used (one nanoSIM and one microSIM), sequentially inserting them into the corresponding gadgets. Both SIM cards support LTE. The measurements were carried out using the Speedtest.Net service. Fixed: ping, incoming speed and outgoing speed.

First, we checked how much the speed depends on the server that the user has set in the phone settings. We successively chose different access daughters on each of the devices: OJSC Megafon Ekaterinburg, DOM.RU Ekaterinburg and Rostelecom Chelyabinsk.

Measurement data suggests that the speed of mobile Internet, both in 3G and 4G, depends on a specific server or site. Each Internet resource has its own speed limit. This is done for uninterrupted access for all users, even during peak loads. Otherwise, part of the Internet audience would not be able to view photos and videos, download new updates and write comments. In our experiment, the OJSC Megafon server shows the best results. Here the operator does not restrict access to its subscribers and the speed is maximum.

As for the subjective assessments of the work of applications and surfing, smartphones worked faster in 4G networks, and content loaded faster. Having tried LTE, I no longer wanted to switch back to 3G. It is a fact.

The second conclusion that can be drawn from our experiment is that the speed of the Internet depends on the hardware platform. For example, the iPhone 5c and 6 we use showed almost the same data transfer speed in both 3G and 4G. Interestingly, in 4G, the iPhone 5c was three times slower than its competitors, and the iPhone 6 was twice as fast. At the same time, the operator's network has nothing to do with it.

Lumia 820 on Windows Phone, HTC One M7 and Sony Xperia M5 on Android in the same place with the same sim card showed best speeds. Apparently, this state of affairs is due to the internal limitations of the Apple A6 and Apple A8 chips, which simply do not allow you to use 4G at full capacity.

A similar conclusion can be drawn from the Lenovo A2010 smartphone, by the way, the cheapest one with 4G support. Its results are also lower than more expensive models, even though it went on sale quite recently. But for him, this is forgivable, unlike Apple.

Another factor that affects the quality of the Internet is the location of the subscriber: on the street or indoors. The data of our study show that the speed of mobile Internet is higher for all devices outdoors, and lower indoors. And this is due to the penetration of radio waves from base stations through building envelopes and obstacles. The signal, passing through the walls of buildings, loses some of its power. Accordingly, the speed of the mobile Internet is reduced.

The situation is similar in the interior of cars with “wild tinted” windows (light transmission is less than 15%). The metallized film used for dimming shields the signal. The connection quality is deteriorating. The stronger the tinting, the worse the mobile Internet works in the cabin.

Modern smartphones are so heavily tuned to work with mobile Internet that the deterioration of its quality makes gadgets simply useless. They begin to "slow down", "stupid" and "hang". Here the rule applies, the faster the Internet, the better the device. VKontakte, Facebook, Instagram, Youtube, Viber, WhatsApp, Yandex, Google - all this is unthinkable without fast internet. Users of online services are constantly watching, sending and writing something.

Our tests showed the total advantage of 4G over 3G. LTE allows smartphones to work faster. However, in addition to coverage at a specific point where the subscriber is located, many other factors affect the speed, among them:

1. Communication technology. Mobile Internet in 4G is 6-5 times faster than in 3G and 50 times faster than 2G. "Heavy content" can be watched with the same comfort as on a home computer, so for comfortable access to the network, choose a more modern smartphone with support for the fourth generation network.

2. The speed limit can be set by a specific website or server, so choose the settings you need in the settings, and also don't expect the same fast response from different web pages.

3. Hardware platform (chip used, data transmission technology).

4. Software restrictions imposed by the manufacturer, as well as power saving modes.

5. Difficult urban terrain, dense urban development, buildings with thick walls, glass tinting. Outdoors, mobile internet is faster.

Quality of services provided internet access largely due to the successful actions of providers. It is they who are obliged to ensure the quality of the so-called "last mile" to any subscriber (The term "last mile" means a channel that connects the end (or client) hardware equipment with the provider's base). Companies - providers must constantly work towards expanding external channels on the Internet. They can constantly monitor (track) situations for the emergence and prevention of emergency and emergency situations in their areas of responsibility. Also, it is providers that provide subscribers not only with the technical capabilities of connecting to Internet networks. They sell “access services”, while providing their customers with support and offering new modern features and quite attractive services.

However, a large personal responsibility for providing high quality speed on the Internet lies with the subscriber. The vast majority of providers relieve themselves of responsibility for the correct settings of subscriber computer equipment. It is on this factor that will largely depend speed characteristics internet connections. Because under equal conditions good competent setting subscribers' computers is the key to fast, and most importantly, trouble-free access using this particular computer.

What factors for the end user have a decisive influence on the speed of Internet access? To understand, you need to consider factors that subscribers themselves can control and configure. This information is not exhaustive and does not serve complete guide in setting all parameters. It only focuses the attention of customers on the most sensitive and significant points that need to be taken into account in order to create the most favorable conditions for obtaining high speed values for accessing the Internet.

So, the Internet connection speed may depend on: network loads, the introduction of all possible viruses or similar programs, failures in the settings of operating systems and correct operation in hardware, intermediate equipment (User devices - , ), time, place, different weather conditions .

Now about each of them in more detail.

Let's start with network loads. In the case when on base station 120 users are hanging at the same time downloading movies, respectively, the speed of your Internet connection, during normal surfing, will become very low, since all channels are already busy with a more “good” thing.

Secondly, the presence of a virus and a similar program, as well as a program that filters

traffic that has the ability to limit the channel width, antivirus with built-in filters, programs for peer-to-peer networks. This item is of particular importance for ensuring not only high speeds on the Internet, but is also directly related to general security computer and the data on it.

The next item is setting up the operating system, sufficient correctness in the operation of the hardware. In any operating system, settings for working with the Internet are associated with complex issues of their administration. Given this, they should be left as they were set by the manufacturers or only adjusted by experienced users who understand the full implications of these actions. This fact applies primarily to the types of Windows operating systems, which are considered to be the most common among most Internet clients.

A few words about intermediate equipment (User devices -). A banal example is the establishment of a connection at the same time and at a single point in space with different speed on different devices There are many tests comparing the parameters of modems. For example, when testing HSDPA modems and the Huawei E220 model, it won the first one, providing a higher speed to the computer connected to it. This is due to the presence of a special information encryption algorithm and an external retractable. Although you should not hope that the same Internet connection will work the same way in the same places.

A qualified setting of these types of hardware (modems) can also affect the value of the connection speed, since it is the modems that are the intermediate links between the subscribers' computers and the providers' networks. In addition, it is recommended to regularly update all software your modem. For example, one of the new firmware updates for declares an increase in connection performance by optimizing firmware codes.

Category time and place. The level of access speed depends quite strongly on the place and time when users try to access the network. During the daytime, on weekdays, for example, in the center of large cities, the load on wireless network more than on the weekend or in the evening. Don't expect the same internet connection will work the same in the same places.

RIPI completed consumer service quality test mobile Internet 3G provided by the three largest operators mobile communications(Beeline, Megafon, MTS) in Moscow.

During the test, it was checked:

  • how real Internet access speeds correspond to statements
  • what is hidden under the "unlimited" tariffs of operators
  • what are the benefits to the user of the so-called "fast" modems

The test was carried out through numerous measurements of the speed of Internet access by the speedtest.net service in several districts of Moscow.

The measurement results and download speed chart are shown below.

Comparison table for the measured speed of modems of two types: 7.2 and 14.4 Mbps.

Note: The Beeline operator did not participate in the comparison, since it sells only one obsolete type of modem with a speed of 3.6 Mbps.

Test Conclusions:

The operator became the leader of the test both in terms of Internet access speed and convenience Megaphone.

Operator MTS demonstrated high speeds returns (from the subscriber to the Internet).

Operators do not explicitly indicate the actual speeds at which Internet access is provided.

"Unlimited" tariffs are not really such.

14.4 Mbps modems are slightly faster than 7.2 Mbps modems.

Comments

3G Modems

I myself use 3G from Megafon. I use it in my country house, about 30 km from Moscow along the Minsk highway. It works unevenly - sometimes the speed is decent, sometimes it loads just barely. I talked with a neighbor who also has a Megafon 3G modem and heard from him interesting story: the modem worked very slowly for him (he bought it in my opinion in the winter, according to the promotion - "modem for 1 rub." and the neighbor went to swear at the Megafon office. There he was told that the speed depends on the SIM card, and that he needs to change SIM card for a new one.The neighbor changed - and the modem really began to work, which is called "with a whistle."

Question in this regard: Is it true that the type of SIM card affects the speed of the modem? Is it for all operators or only for Megafon?

Thanks in advance for your reply!

In general, this is unlikely

In general, this is unlikely, more like folklore.
If only the card is damaged, wiped, etc., but then the sim card is not detected error, insert the sim card.

Did they give him a card with a different phone number? Did you make changes to the contract? In any case, a number is attached to the card. The number is registered to the subscriber under the contract.
A SIM card purchased in winter under the action "modem for 1 ruble" cannot be old.
The SIM card only contains information about the subscriber's id, binding to the number.
If we assume hypothetically that, for example, marks were introduced for artificially lowering the speed on promotional kits, then the marks had to be made in the operator's database, it makes no sense to store them on a SIM card.
Then the number attached to the SIM should have changed.
Misterious story.

Numbers and results

You can look for the figures that are declared on the websites of the operators using the links indicated in the survey. Also, take part in the survey itself.
And then write to us here what you managed to find and how you understood it.
It is too early to publish the results of the survey, it is necessary to collect a sufficient number of voters for statistics.

Coverage as a criterion

If for Moscow, then this is not entirely relevant, problems with coverage are vanishingly small, perhaps with rare local exceptions.
Even Beeline has problems with coverage in Moscow to a minimum.
This can be very relevant for the suburbs, the Moscow region and other areas.
But we cannot afford to conduct a test with such coverage, and I think it will be beyond the strength of organizations with serious resources. Hardly anyone will take it.
It's also impossible to say that by common forces. A number of resources are known that collect statistics from users of individuals, but the information collected in this way was rather fragmented and lacked systematicity. Some of them faded.

Minimum speed!

It is quite possible that the speed of Internet connection will soon be measured not by maximum, but by minimal quantities. And in contracts for the provision of services, providers will have to indicate exactly the minimum figure. Such a legislative initiative by the end of 2011 is taken to develop the Ministry of Telecom and Mass Communications of the Russian Federation.

– We all understand that the speed indicated in the tariff is from zero to “to”. Maybe we will move on to measuring the speed "from", - said the head of the Ministry of Communications Igor Shchegolev. Such an approach, in his opinion, will help consumers to realistically assess the quality of services and, if necessary, make claims to providers.

Until now, the introduction of such rules has been hampered by the lack of systems for measuring and controlling the speed of access to the World Wide Web. However, this problem may be solved in the near future. In the meantime, providers easily defend themselves against claims from consumers by referring to technological difficulties beyond their control, which can cause failures and even complete disconnection from the Network.

Great mobile swindle.

As I wrote earlier, for cellular operators, the Internet was a "minor" service. I think it's too early to wait for cardinal changes.
You shouldn't have tested Beeline. Indeed, in the tests of Megafon and MTS, the speed did not even reach 3Mbps, so the "outdated" modem could well compete with the "modern" ones :-)

I have an opinion that companies are still NOT READY for mass fast internet. Otherwise, they would not sell a normal IP address for extra money and would not take off the speed in "unlimited" tariffs.

Quote:
"I have an opinion that companies are still NOT READY for mass fast Internet. Otherwise, they would not sell a normal IP address for extra money and would not throw off the speed in "unlimited" tariffs."

They thus strive for additional excess profits. So they say: -Up to pay and yuzay further at speeds. :)

On the network you can find useful utilities that improve the performance of your smartphone. Often users ask questions about how you can speed up the Internet on Android, which applications allow you to control traffic, which affects the performance of the system as a whole. There is a solution for these problems as well.

With the help of programs

You can download it in the public domain both on Google Play and App Store. The user can fine-tune the system settings, optimize the operation of Internet services. The main advantage of this program is the ability to interact with files without having root rights.

Viatun is an interesting and easy to use utility that is supported on EDGE, 3G, 4G and even WiFi networks. The principle of operation of Viatun is similar to programs that are responsible for compressing traffic. An interesting feature of this utility is that it encrypts data and hides the user's real IP.

Internet Booster is an easy-to-use program that optimizes data transfer performance by cleaning up temporary files. There is a version without root rights, just press “speed up” and restart your smartphone.
